Nine Inch Nails to Score Disney’s ‘Tron: Ares’

As a longtime fan who witnessed the rise of Nine Inch Nails in the gritty, industrial landscape of the ’90s, I can hardly contain my excitement about Trent Reznor and his band composing the score for “Tron: Ares.” This is a creative partnership that seems almost too good to be true.

Trent Reznor’s band, Nine Inch Nails, has been tapped to create the soundtrack for “Tron: Ares”, as revealed by Disney on Friday at their D23 event.

The unveiling took place when we had our initial viewing of the science fiction film, which stars Jared Leto and is helmed by Joachim Ronning.

Additionally, the current progress on the score was showcased with select excerpts. Previously, the film “Tron: Legacy” boasted an iconic soundtrack by Daft Punk, raising the expectations for this next production’s musical composition significantly.

In the late ’80s, I found myself deeply immersed in the world of Nine Inch Nails (NIN), a band Trent Reznor initially established as an industrial hard rock powerhouse. Despite being the mastermind behind the compositions and playing the instruments for our studio albums, when it came to touring, he handpicked a rotating cast of musicians to join him on stage.

2010 marked the year I ventured into film scoring, partnering with Atticus Ross to bring life to David Fincher’s masterpiece, The Social Network. Since then, our collaboration has been a consistent thread throughout many of Fincher’s films. Our latest creations can be heard in the soundtracks for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Challengers.

Ross became an official NIN member in 2016.

In 2020, when the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, their roster included six active and past members: Ross, Robin Finck, Chris Vrenna, Danny Lohner, Ilan Rubin, and Alessandro Cortini.

“Jeff Bridges, one of the original stars from the 1982 film, stated that technology and AI are all around us nowadays,” said he. “It’s fascinating to re-explore this realm at a time like this. Or, perhaps it’s more accurate to say that this world comes to us in this movie, since that is exactly what transpires here.”

Following performances by Jared Leto, Evan Peters, and Greta Lee, some mind-blowing visuals were displayed. Subsequently, a red laser unveiled the well-known NIN symbol, causing a wave of excitement from the audience. Moments later, doors on stage swung open to reveal Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
