Approximately two years following its debut in September 2022, Splatoon 3 has emerged as one of Nintendo Switch’s top-selling video games due to its distinctive characters and exceptional multiplayer gaming experience. The game’s success was further validated when it received the “Best Multiplayer Game” award during The Game Awards 2022, leading many enthusiasts to speculate that the upcoming installment in the series might debut as a launch title for the Switch 2.
Although Sony has revealed their latest PS5 model, Nintendo remains silent about specifics regarding the upcoming Switch 2. No official information on its launch has been shared, but there’s a buzz of rumors and leaks suggesting otherwise. Given the widespread appeal of Splatoon 3 and its franchise, it’s plausible that Nintendo may be planning to release Splatoon 4 as a flagship title for the Switch 2.
Based on information from Naavik, a gaming consultancy firm, Nintendo has divided its development teams into distinct groups known as Entertainment Planning and Development units (EPDs) for each of their intellectual properties (IPs). Specifically, the team responsible for Animal Crossing and Splatoon belongs to the same EPD. Given that Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp has been announced, it’s reasonable to speculate that Nintendo may already be working on Splatoon 4.
It’s widely believed that the Nintendo Switch 2 could boast greater power compared to its predecessor, potentially making it capable of running games like Pokemon Z-A at launch. Given its enhanced hardware capabilities, it’s likely that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to handle these games smoothly.
