As a gamer with a deep-rooted love for cars and a soft spot for nostalgia, I can’t help but be thrilled about the upcoming unveiling of the Nissan Frontier TARMAC at this year’s SEMA Show. Growing up in the early 2000s, muscle trucks were the epitome of cool, and seeing a modern take on that era fills me with a sense of nostalgic excitement.
This year at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nissan will reveal the modified Frontier TARMAC, a vehicle that’s been meticulously redesigned with help from Nissan Motorsports, Forsberg Racing, and Nissan Design America. The TARMAC takes the Nissan Frontier PRO-X and transforms it into a track-ready, sleek powerhouse.
The TARMAC concept, born from the minds of Nissan Motorsports veterans Kevin Lutz and Paul Boyer, is a tribute to the muscle truck era from the early 2000s. Renowned racer Chris Forsberg heads this project, lending his skills and evoking a sense of nostalgia as he remarks, “I haven’t worked on a lowered truck since 2003. It’s exciting to revisit a performance style that has been largely absent.
Equipped with a 3.8L supercharged V6 engine that generates 440 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque, the TARMAC is enhanced by a custom NISMO cold air intake and performance exhaust. Its aerodynamic, carbon fiber-wrapped exterior rides on NISMO street suspension, boasting an adjustable coil-over system at the front and a modified rear flip kit for a lowered appearance. Powerful braking is assured with NISMO brakes, featuring two-piece slotted rotors and a distinctive dual-caliper rear setup, enabling drift-style braking.
Clad in striking Afterburn Orange, the TARMAC boasts a broader 4-inch stance, adorned with 20-inch carbon fiber wheels and expansive Yokohama Advan tires. Its interior flaunts a carbon fiber steering wheel, Recaro seats, and a custom handbrake, all contributing to its racing-oriented appearance. Attendees of the 2024 SEMA Show can get up close and personal with this race truck starting from November 5.
