Noah Schnapp Teases ‘Stranger Things’ Finale: “People Are Going to Be Truly Devastated”

The hit series “Stranger Things” made its way to Broadway last night, with the show “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” officially opening in New York City. Prior to this, it had been captivating audiences in London’s West End.

The play, penned by Kate Trefry, a writer for the Netflix series as well, functions as a prequel to the small-screen events; it’s situated in Hawkins during 1959 and presents the high school counterparts of series characters such as Winona Ryder’s Joyce, Sean Astin’s Bob Newby, and David Harbour’s Hopper. Their high school life takes an unexpected turn with the appearance of a new student, Henry Creel (introduced last season), who starts exploring his newly discovered powers. The Duffer Brothers, the masterminds behind the TV show, oversaw the stage production and hinted at how it connects to the upcoming fifth and final season on television.

As a dedicated fan, I’ve always been intrigued by the meticulous process behind the creation of our beloved show. On a thrilling red carpet event, Ross Duffer shared some fascinating insights with The Hollywood Reporter. He explained that during the writing phase for season five, they were simultaneously working with Kate and director Stephen Daldry to ensure that all the intricate mythology aligned seamlessly. This way, whether you watch the play or the series first, everything would cohesively link and make sense.

Additionally, Ross highlighted the importance of subtly hinting at major season five revelations in the play without spoiling it completely. After all, they wanted season five to shine on its own merit, so it was indeed a delicate balancing act.

Shawn Levy, the director and executive producer of the series, stated, “You’ll develop a fresh, more compassionate bond with the characters you adore, and will come to comprehend them even better,” and hinted that “working on this production in London enhanced my directing skills for the final season, as I returned to these characters with a greater level of empathy and insight.

Regarding that upcoming final season airing on Netflix this year, some of the show’s actors were present at the premiere event. This group included Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Jamie Campbell Bower, Cara Buono, Matt Modine, Brett Gelman, and Priah Ferguson.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but hint at the fact that many of us will be left heartbroken when we finally get to witness the climax of this series for the first time.

Though I’m disappointed, I can’t wait to witness the global response to this finale; there won’t be a single dry eye, it’s going to be heartrending,” he added playfully, “But to lighten the mood, let me say that it’s been a fantastic season, and everyone will adore it.

Ross Duffer hinted at what’s to come, “We’re wrapping up a lengthy odyssey, not only for those involved in creating the series but also for our characters. It’s exhilarating, and it marks our swiftest start ever – our protagonists are immediately engaged, but I believe this season will ultimately be our most emotionally resonant. The concluding episodes aim to pack a punch because, in many ways, they symbolize the culmination of our journey together and also the end of childhood.

On that last day of filming, Levy felt a sense of both relief and farewell, describing it as “we had the feeling that this was the closing of a chapter; each of us might move on to fantastic, fulfilling opportunities, but it’s rare to have a Stranger Things in your life. That unique moment will never recur, and I believe we all understand and value it.
