As a fervent admirer of Nora Fatehi’s artistry and courage, I am genuinely inspired by her bold stance against objectification in the entertainment industry. Her life experience as an artist climbing the ladder in Bollywood has undoubtedly shaped her into a strong advocate for body positivity and self-respect.
Nora Fatehi is an entertainer and dancer who caught attention with her guest roles in films. In the 2018 action movie Satyameva Jayate, she left viewers spellbound with her captivating dance moves in the song Dilbar. Although audiences were thrilled by her dancing talent, the actress felt a bit uncomfortable when she saw the oversized blouse that was designed for her. Consequently, she voiced her concerns and managed to get it altered.
At the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Nora Fatehi shared a story about standing up against wearing a small costume in the popular song Dilbar. During the event, she stated that the team behind Satyameva Jayate had to create a new top because the one they brought for her was too small, and she made it clear she wouldn’t accept it.
As an ardent admirer, I’ve learned from The Indian Express that she firmly expressed her thoughts to the team: “Let’s avoid overt sexualization. I understand the song is sensual, but we can express our inherent sexiness without resorting to vulgarity.” She also mentioned it was Ramadan and added this concern to the makers of the action-thriller. Later on, she disclosed that the movie’s director, Milap Zaveri, often teases her about this issue at various gatherings.
Speaking about the incident when she refused the original outfit for Street Dancer 3D, the actress revealed that they had to redesign the entire blouse. Although she didn’t have a problem revealing her stomach due to the song’s visual appeal, she felt uncomfortable showing excessive cleavage. In an interview, she stated, “Many consider it overly sexy, but for me, it was a more comfortable choice compared to what they initially planned for me.
Although this action appears strong, Nora pointed out that it was difficult for her since she was relatively unknown at the time. In essence, filmmakers might have thought, “Who do you think you are?” Given these circumstances, Nora felt compelled to express her viewpoint tenderly. Fortunately, when she discussed it with Milap and emphasized that the song and dance should not be compromised due to a blouse, Milap agreed, and they proceeded as planned.
