The highly-anticipated comeback of Oasis on July 4th and 5th at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium attracted a variety of A-list personalities from the realms of film, television, fashion, and music. Notable attendees included Louis Tomlinson of One Direction on the first night, with Matt Smith from Doctor Who, House of the Dragon, and The Crown gracing the second night. Other stars in attendance were actors Sienna Miller, Anya Taylor-Joy, and model-actress Cara Delevingne. Metallica’s Lars Ulrich was also present, having attended with his wife to witness Oasis’ performance. Interestingly, Ulrich’s band performed at Ozzy Osbourne’s farewell show in Birmingham over the same weekend. Ulrich has been a loyal fan and supporter of Oasis since the ’90s, having previously attended several concerts in the U.S., including a stint running the soundboard at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park.
Notable figures such as Holly Willoughby (from This Morning) and Vernon Kay (who has appeared on This Morning and Family Fortunes), along with British entertainers Danny Dyer (known for his roles in EastEnders, The Football Factory), and Vicky McClure (recognized from Line of Duty and This Is England), were among the attendees.
In the VIP section, we found Jacqueline Saturn, president of Virgin Music Group America, Dave Massey, former CEO of Arista Records, Live Nation’s CEO Michael Rapino, Hipgnosis’ CEO Merck Mercuriadis, Sony Music Group’s CEO Rob Stringer, Stu Bergen, the head of Deezer, Jay Liepis from Apple Music, Tom March, chief at Capitol Music Group, IAG’s Marsha Vlasic, Q Prime’s Brant Weil and Amy Morgan from September Management.
At the event, family members present were Meg Mathews, who used to be Noel’s wife; Anais Gallagher, and Gene Gallagher, Liam’s son.
Over the weekend, Oasis played 24-song sets that covered their hits, album tracks, and B-sides. The setlist included “Morning Glory,” “Cigarettes & Alcohol,” “Supersonic,” “Half the World Away” “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” “Wonderwall,” and “Champagne Supernova.” Of particular interest was their performance of the B-side “Whatever,” which was initially released as a standalone single in 1994 and is over six minutes long.
After Noel and Liam Gallagher’s notoriously contentious relationship resulted in the breakup of Oasis more than a decade back, their reunion tour has generated immense excitement as one of the most anticipated tours in recent memory. Following their performance in Wales, Oasis will move on to Manchester starting from July 11th. The North American leg of the tour kicks off in Toronto on August 24th.
