The creative minds at JJJJound continue to innovate, particularly focusing on footwear collaborations. Recently, they unveiled the newest phase in their ongoing partnership with New Balance: two variations of the 993 model. These new designs retain JJJJound’s distinctive earthy brown and olive tones, but instead of a full collaboration makeover, they offer an alternate perspective on colors previously used in projects such as the 2018 990v3, 2020 992, 2022 990v3, and 2023 991. These new designs are displayed on a fresh canvas.
One design emphasizes its upper with two-tone white and bone colored midsoles, along with a striking silver tongue, while the other adopts a more muted appearance, aligning with the previously released 990v3 from 2022 due to black tongues, collars, overlays, and midsoles. The primary alteration in the silhouette, as far as JJJJound designs are concerned, is a subtle reinterpretation of the tongue branding. Typically, a 993 model would display two lines of text: “New Balance” on top of “Made in USA”. However, here, only “Made in USA” appears, moved to the top of the tongue, creating a small gap between it and the usual window that holds the shoe’s model name, which is situated just above the laces.
