'Oh La La!' Shakes Up Art Basel Paris with Unconventional Artworks

As a seasoned gamer of the art world, I must say that the latest initiative by Art Basel Paris, Oh La La!, has truly caught my eye and tickled my artistic senses. With its focus on the unexpected and thought-provoking, it’s like stumbling upon a rare, hidden treasure chest in the vast expanse of the gaming world – only instead of gold coins, we find ourselves surrounded by artworks that challenge our perceptions and provoke our thoughts.

At the Grand Palais, which is now Art Basel’s Paris venue, a fun project called “Oh La La!” has been launched. This program allows 35 exhibitors to display unconventional and thought-provoking art pieces during the fair’s opening days to the public. The idea revolves around creating surprise and excitement, motivating galleries to share lesser-known works that cover a variety of topics such as love, Surrealism, and queer identity.

As a passionate art enthusiast, I find it fascinating to see how galleries like Galerie Templon celebrate the legacy of Fluxus artist Ben Vautier through his humorous piece “Je peut tout me permettre” (1971). On the other hand, Galerie Layr offers a unique perspective by showcasing Käthe Kollwitz’s historical artwork in a modern setting. Lastly, Paris’ galerie anne barrault delves into the mysterious world of Roland Topor’s “Oh la la” (1973), a captivating drawing from the French avant-garde artist. Each gallery presents a different angle of the art world, making it a thrilling experience for all art lovers like myself!

Oh La La! aspires to enthrall both VIPs and casual attendees with captivating and thought-provoking exhibits. Galleria Continua showcases the sculpture of Pascale Marthine Tayou, delving into the blending of African and European cultures. Meanwhile, Air de Paris provides a whimsical experience that combines art, drinks, and olives for a delightful interaction.

Although “Oh La La!” is currently confined to Paris, there’s excitement about its possible future showings at Art Basel Miami or in Switzerland. Visit the Art Basel website for further details.
