Olivia Munn has shared her personal struggles with self-doubt during the filming of intimate scenes for the show Your Friends & Neighbors. This dark comedy crime drama, produced by Jonathan Tropper and streaming on Apple TV+, revolves around Jon Hamm’s character, Andrew “Coop” Cooper. Coop, a divorced and jobless hedge fund manager, resorts to criminal activities to maintain his luxurious lifestyle and provide for his family. This decision leads him to unearth some alarming secrets hidden in his wealthy community. Munn portrays Samantha “Sam” Levitt, who is involved in a clandestine relationship with Coop in the series.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Munn candidly admitted that her discomfort in performing romantic scenes with Hamm might strike a chord with those who have grappled with self-doubt about their bodies.

I found myself quite anxious about filming intimate scenes due to my numerous visible and hidden scars, which might show even under clothes or become apparent only when fully undressed.

In spite of her own apprehensions, Munn recognized the significance of those private moments for shaping her character. Even though Sam’s bond with Coop is primarily physical, she yearns for something more profound.

According to Munn, she desired to emphasize that there’s a significant gap between what she character desires from him compared to what he is willing to offer, and their relationship is primarily based on physical intimacy. She aimed to make the sexual scenes realistic, intense, and unapologetic in portraying their raw intensity.

Collaborating with an intimacy coach has been beneficial for me. It’s true that I sometimes felt insecure prior to filming intimate scenes, but after each take, I found myself feeling more at ease and comfortable.

2023 saw the actress from X-Men: Apocalypse, Munn, bravely facing up to a challenging health situation – breast cancer of an aggressive type, Luminal B. Despite a clean bill of health in her mammogram and genetic testing for 90 cancer genes, she was diagnosed following a referral by her OB/GYN for a breast cancer risk assessment. A month after her diagnosis, Munn underwent a double mastectomy, followed by a hysterectomy to manage hormone production, as Luminal B is sensitive to hormones. It’s this battle that has led to Munn’s forthright response regarding filming intimate scenes.

After her first operation, Munn has openly shared her journey, highlighting the significance of thorough risk evaluation, early identification, and self-assertion, as well as increasing understanding of mammograms’ boundaries. Currently in remission, Munn shows appreciation for her physique.

“I’m so grateful for my body because it got me through this,” she told the publication.

The series titled “Your Friends & Neighbors” debuted on April 11, airing its inaugural episodes. Fresh installments are made available every Friday. Intriguingly, Apple TV+ has already given the green light for a second season of this show. The cast includes Hamm, Munn, Amanda Peet, Mark Tallman, Hoon Lee, Lena Hall, Aimee Carrero, Isabel Gravitt, Donovan Colan, and Eunice Bae, with Sandrine Holt and Corbin Bernsen appearing in recurring roles.
