As an ardent sports enthusiast who has been captivated by the journey of Indian athletes like Milkha Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the prospect of witnessing a Neeraj Chopra biopic is nothing short of exhilarating. The young javelin thrower’s gold medal win at the Tokyo Olympics and his subsequent silver at the Commonwealth Games have not only etched his name in history but also ignited a flame of inspiration among millions.
The surge of popular sports biographies, such as Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, has ignited talks about a possible biopic featuring Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra. When inquired about his thoughts, Neeraj Chopra mentioned that he feels it’s premature to make a biopic based on his life at this moment. Furthermore, he suggested Randeep Hooda as a potential actor who could convincingly portray him.
As an ardent admirer of Neeraj Chopra’s achievements, I can’t help but feel the excitement building among fans like me, eagerly waiting for a Bollywood movie that chronicles his incredible journey to success. In a recent conversation with Hindustan Times, he was asked about the possibility of a biopic, and it left me wondering what his thoughts might be.
Responding to the suggestion, Neeraj clarified that it is premature for a biographical movie about him at this stage. According to him, it’s more fitting to produce such films after an athlete has retired, as this would enable filmmakers to portray all the crucial achievements of his career on the big screen.
In my opinion, it’s better to create biopics once an individual retires. This way, we can include all significant achievements in their career, which could have a greater impact on the nation, as well as help popularize a sport like javelin throw within the country.
As a result, they inquired if there was a specific actor that India’s star, Neeraj, thought could bring his character to life on-screen. Neeraj admitted he wasn’t sure who would fit the part perfectly, but Randeep Hooda seemed like a promising contender to him.
He mentioned, “I’m thinking of Randeep Hooda, a superb actor from Haryana. It’s essential for whoever portrays the character to speak the local dialect accurately.
It was also possible that the 26-year-old could be invited to play the lead role in a movie based on his life story. Yet, the Olympic medalist expressed apprehension about acting, despite having experience with endorsements. He confided that filming commercials proved challenging for him, as he feels it might not suit his abilities.
