One Piece’s David Dastmalchian Shares What He’s ‘Super Curious’ To Learn About Mr. 3’s Look, And I’m Also Really Intrigued About How The Character Will Be Handled In Season 2

As a longtime fan of One Piece, I must admit that the anticipation for Season 2 has reached a fever pitch with the latest casting announcements. The news about David Dastmalchian playing Mr. 3 sent my excitement levels soaring, and his recent interview with Nerdist only served to heighten my expectations.

Although the order for Season 2 of “One Piece” was made only a few weeks after the first season debuted on Netflix last year, it wasn’t until June that casting news began to surface. One of the initial actors announced was David Dastmalchian, who will portray Baroque Works member Mr. 3. Apart from his ability to mold and control candle wax due to consuming the Wax-Wax Fruit, Mr. 3 stands out with a unique appearance, especially in terms of hairstyle as shown above. However, Dastmalchian has expressed eagerness to learn about another aspect of his character’s look that he finds intriguing, which has further piqued my interest regarding how he will embody the character in the upcoming live-action season of “One Piece”.

In an engaging chat with Nerdist, I shared my passion for “One Piece,” particularly the enigmatic and captivatingly odd character, Mr. 3, aka Galdino. To breathe life into this role, I’ll be drawing from my experiences in both horror and theater. As for the iconic hairstyle, well, that’s a secret I can’t spill just yet!

Although I haven’t had a glimpse of it yet, I firmly believe that the design team is doing an exceptional job in sticking to the original material. So, despite not knowing what it will eventually appear like, I am confident that it will showcase great respect for the source material’s design. Moreover, I can hardly wait to discover the kind of eyewear they have in store for us, and perhaps, if my arms manage to look decent enough, maybe I’ll get to wear those short-sleeved shirts he often wears too!

In the second season of One Piece, we got our first glimpse of Chopper, and it’s been confirmed that two significant characters will be joining the cast.

The recent collaboration between One Piece and Cobra Kai has me wholeheartedly convinced about the rumors suggesting Xolo Maridueña might be part of Season 2.

That hairstyle is still my chief concern, because in a live-action adaptation where characters like Buggy the Clown and Arlong were brought to life, the idea of a guy running around with his hair shared like a 3 somehow seems less plausible, especially when factoring in how it catches on fire when using his powers. Still, I can understand why David Dastmalchian would be wondering about the eyewear, and I hope the Netflix show’s crew tries to replicate Mr. 3’s original glasses as closely as possible rather than make something that looks completely different. As for Dastmalchian’s arms, I’m confident they’ll look just fine when we see him as Mr. 3, although it’s not as though the character needs to look well-toned.

In addition to David Dastmalchian, several newcomers are set for Season 2 of One Piece. Katey Sagal plays Dr. Kureha, Lera Abova is Miss All Sunday, Sendhil Ramamurthy portrays Nefertari Cobra, and Joe Manganiello takes on the role of Mr. 0 (also known as Mr. Crocodile), the head of Baroque Works. Although Season 2 won’t delve into the main Alabasta arc, it will focus on the Little Garden arc instead, which provides ample opportunity for Mr. 3 to shine. As for how long Netflix’s One Piece will continue, if it runs for an extended period, Dastmalchian may have more opportunities to contribute to the show later in its run.

While we’re waiting for further updates about the release of One Piece Season 2, such as its premiere date, consider checking out other top shows on Netflix to pass the time. For those who don’t have access to Netflix, our 2024 TV schedule is available for your reference.
