they planned a trip to Japan, the franchise’s origin.
During an interview with Movieweb about his latest film, Cleaner (released last weekend and featuring Daisy Ridley and Clive Owen), Skylar talked about the subject at hand. Despite being tight-lipped about any spoilers for One Piece Season 2, he did express his thoughts when asked if he was taken aback by Season 1’s popularity:

In an interview with Movieweb regarding Cleaner (opened on the 2025 release schedule this past weekend and starring Daisy Ridley and Clive Owen), Skylar shared his thoughts about the topic. Although he couldn’t reveal any details for One Piece Season 2, when asked if he was taken aback by Season 1’s success, he had the following to say:
In that situation, it was quite challenging due to the ongoing strikes, as they disrupted all the performances planned across various countries. Reflecting on it, I recall pondering two options: one, escaping to a peaceful tropical locale, turning off my phone, and returning in a month to see if our efforts had prevailed or failed. Alternatively, we could confront the challenges head-on by diving into the heart of the issues with a sense of pride for all the hard work put into our endeavors over the past year and a half.
One Piece didn’t require any media coverage or premieres to generate excitement; it quickly became one of the most popular shows for binge-watching on Netflix within just a few days. Despite the lack of promotion, Taz Skylar found himself with two options on how to handle the situation. He decided to go with the choice that allowed him to connect with Iñaki Godoy (Monkey D. Luffy), Mackenyu (Roronoa Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami) and Jacob Romero Gibson (Usopp) at their convenience rather than opting for a different approach. He further explained:
In our WhatsApp group, I suggested that we all travel to Japan as a family, stating, “How about we go to Japan together, regardless? Let’s spend the day when it airs there, united.” I expressed my desire not to miss this event and not to leave anyone alone if things don’t go well. If it turns out successful, I longed for us to share the moment together. True to my words, we all flew from various parts of the world to Japan, spending five days together. On the fifth day, we watched the show as one family.
Taz Skylar joined forces with his fellow actors portraying this group of Straw Hat Pirates during their Japanese holiday, choosing to watch One Piece Season 1 as a fitting finale. They also monitored and discussed the show’s critical reception, with Taz reflecting back on:
We found ourselves scrutinizing the Rotten Tomatoes rating during our viewing, expressing optimism with phrases like “We’re good! We’re good!” and “I think we’re gonna make it!” However, another voice of reason would pipe up, reminding us, “No, but wait! In 24 hours, everything could change.” This was akin to watching the stock market. Fortunately, our rating kept climbing higher and higher until finally, after a couple of weeks, we felt confident saying, “I think we’ve done it.” Just two weeks later, we were granted another chance for Season 2.
Indeed, it’s worth noting that One Piece, unlike Netflix’s previous significant live-action anime adaptation, Cowboy Bebop which was cancelled after a single season with roughly the same duration, had its renewal swiftly. Filming for Season 2 commenced in South Africa back in June 2024, and just recently, it was disclosed that production has wrapped up. In this upcoming season, fans can expect to see new characters like Joe Manganiello portraying Crocodile, Katey Sagal as Dr. Kureha, Lera Abova as Mr. 0, and David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, among others joining Sanji’s crew.
It seems less and less probable that One Piece Season 2 will air in 2025. There’s a higher chance it might be released in 2026, but let’s hope for the best if Season 3 gets announced by the end of this year.
