One Struggle Chloe Fineman Had With Playing Jojo Siwa On SNL I Would Never Have Even Considered

The 50th season of Saturday Night Live concluded on the 2025 TV schedule, marking the end of another amusing season filled with exceptional hosts, musical guests, and unexpected delights. This season was also brimming with celebrity imitations, such as Chloe Fineman‘s reappearance as Jojo Siwa. Despite delivering an almost flawless impression, the comedian encountered a challenge in this role that I wouldn’t have anticipated.

Initially, Fineman depicted the dancer-singer character during a Weekend Update segment in Season 49, and her appearance was quite accurate, featuring a complete makeup look along with face paint. The ensemble and mannerisms made the comedian excel at the impression. However, it turned out to be more challenging than expected, as she admitted during an interview with IndieWire about the difficulty of impersonating Siwa. Just imagining the effort required leaves me drained.

Last year, I appeared on ‘Weekend Update’ as JoJo Siwa, a role that required an extraordinary amount of makeup. The process was quite intense; I would apply it, wash it off completely, and then quickly reapply a new look. We repeated this routine multiple times during the show.

It’s worth noting that while “Saturday Night Live” is named as such, it might slip one’s mind that except for some pre-recorded skits, the show is truly live. The swift transitions between scenes serve as a constant reminder of this fact.

Swiftly switching outfits can be manageable, but adding the task of applying or removing a heavy makeup look within limited time is stressful. I hadn’t realized before how short the breaks are between sketches, as you tend to concentrate on what’s happening on-screen rather than off. However, it seems like Fineman cherishes this demanding experience so much that he wouldn’t give it up for anything else.

It’s beyond contemplation. You’re simply moving along, and it feels like an unusual, instinctive rhythm that we all follow because everyone is incredibly skilled and operating at peak performance. It’s mesmerizing.

It’s quite remarkable to understand the work that happens behind the curtains and see how much effort everyone puts in. While swift changes are something commonplace on Saturday Night Live (SNL), they become more challenging when coupled with demanding makeup, as was the case with Fineman. Fortunately, the rapid change didn’t affect her performance, and she successfully reprised Siwa at the start of Season 50 last year.

There’s speculation about who might appear in Season 51, with some suggesting certain cast members may depart, but there’s a strong possibility that Chloe Fineman could rejoin the show. It’s even rumored that she might bring her Siwa impression along. Given her exceptional talent for celebrity impressions and her knack for nailing them perfectly each time, I have no doubt she’ll deliver an outstanding performance, regardless of the character she portrays.

With a Peacock subscription, I’ll approach Saturday Night Live (SNL) in a new light. After all these years, 50 seasons to be exact, SNL seems to run like clockwork, continuously delivering fresh content. The show is set to return this year for Season 51, promising more unexpected twists and hilarious impressions.
