One Tree Hill Sequel Series Moving Forward With Original Series Stars, And There's More Good News

As a dedicated fan who grew up with the heart-wrenching drama of One Tree Hill, this news has me feeling like I just got swept off my feet by Nathan Scott himself! The prospect of revisiting the beloved characters of Tree Hill, especially Brooke and Peyton, is almost too good to be true.

In terms of hit shows that had fervent previous stars, it’s wise to avoid absolute statements about their potential comebacks, as evidenced by the reported progress of a revival for One Tree Hill. A follow-up series is under development on an entirely new platform than where the original show was broadcasted (The WB/The CW), and key cast members from the original One Tree Hill series are already involved. Moreover, there’s even more positive news to come about this new project, so stay tuned for further updates.

At this point in time, the sequel hasn’t been given a series order, but according to Variety, it’s currently being developed with Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, and Daneel Ackles serving as executive producers. Both Bush and Burton have agreed to return to their original roles as Brooke and Peyton, respectively. Furthermore, there are ongoing discussions for Daneel Ackles, who is producing alongside his husband and former Supernatural co-star Jensen Ackles, to reappear on screen as Rachel too.

To put it simply, Sophia Bush’s recent statements about a potential One Tree Hill revival are encouraging, considering her initial hesitation earlier this year. With such original cast members, wouldn’t many fans be eager for another story in the One Tree Hill universe?

As a dedicated fan, I’m keeping my fingers crossed about the revival reports for our beloved “One Tree Hill” on Netflix and WBTV, though there’s no official word yet. However, it’s heartening to note that the original creator, Mark Schwahn, won’t be part of the new project. The fervent fanbase has long felt that the later seasons fell short compared to the earlier ones, but beyond the creative concerns, Schwahn faced allegations of sexual harassment from cast members and crew during the series’ nine-season run. Actress Hilarie Burton bravely shared her experiences of continued abuse even after leaving the show. So, while we eagerly await updates on the revival, this news brings a sense of relief to many fans.

Unfortunately, despite discussions between the show’s executive producers and their former cast members, Chad Michael Murray has no intentions of reprising his role as Lucas Scott for the upcoming series sequel. This could create a dilemma given that Peyton and Lucas were together at the end of Season 9. On a more positive note, it appears that Brooke’s twin sons Davis and Jude will be part of the new series as teenagers, implying that the storyline may continue in real-time like Netflix’s Gilmore Girls revival did, which ended in 2012.

To sum up, I believe there’s more reason for joy than sorrow, considering the current situation, despite the news that Chad Michael Murray might not be coming back. There are several cast members who haven’t ruled out a possible comeback, and the eagerness of Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, and Bethany Joy Galeotti (née Lenz) is palpable. The trio has been hosting the “Drama Queens” rewatch podcast to reminisce about their days on “One Tree Hill.”

Now’s when we eagerly anticipate more information. If the latest news has sparked your interest to revisit the initial episodes of the show, you can stream all nine seasons on Max or Hulu by subscribing to either service.
