Actor Patrick Wilson, renowned for his roles in series such as “The Conjuring”, “Insidious” and “Aquaman”, has voiced his thoughts on the possibility of reprising his character in the DC Studios franchise. In the two “Aquaman” installments directed by James Wan under Zack Snyder’s DCEU, Wilson portrayed Orm Marius, also known as Ocean Master. With James Gunn now leading the franchise and transforming it into the DCU, fans are eager to learn if any previous characters – including Wilson’s – will be welcomed back.
In a conversation on the “Just for Variety” podcast, Wilson discussed his ongoing ventures, particularly focusing on his latest project, the drama film “Millers in Marriage,” directed by Edward Burns which he is promoting. Interestingly, Wilson is also dabbling in theatre and is currently co-producing a musical adaptation of the ’80s film “The Lost Boys.” Previously, he has starred in plays like “Oklahoma!” and “The Full Monty.” During this chat, the actor also touched upon his role in “Aquaman” and the possibility of reprising it if needed. While Wilson appears content with his work, this doesn’t necessarily mean he would decline the opportunity to play the character again.
I wasn’t expecting it to be any better, I believe. After all, I’ve worked on multiple ‘Insidious’ films, several ‘Conjurings,’ and even ‘Aquaman.’ It’s not that I have a bias against sequels; it’s just that the character of Orm, who was initially the antagonist in the first film and turned out to be almost good in the second, leaves me wondering where else he could go.
I wasn’t expecting a third part, but there was no disappointment. The plot’s direction was unclear, but I wouldn’t mind it continuing… It’s quirky and peculiar, and I find that intriguing. To be honest, I’m content with the current state of affairs. In other words, I’m fine with things moving forward as they are.
Could Patrick Wilson’s ‘Aquaman’ Character Make a Comeback in the New DCU?
At present, Wilson’s schedule is quite packed. In 2025, you can catch him in Noah Baumbach’s drama titled “Jay Kelly,” and he will also return as Ed Warren in the movie “The Conjuring: Last Rites.” Moreover, he has secured a leading role in the television version of “Cape Fear,” a project that was previously brought to life as a gripping crime thriller by Martin Scorsese. In this new adaptation, he will share the screen with Amy Adams and Javier Bardem.
Affirmative, Wilson’s calendar is packed with film and television projects. Including theatre work, it seems unlikely that we’ll see him reprise his role in the superhero universe for a while. Yet, he has expressed interest in portraying Ocean Master once more if the opportunity proves worthwhile.
“Would I consider revisiting it if the circumstances are right? The director, plot, and character are important factors for me. He seems peculiar, and his introduction doesn’t seem straightforward. It feels unusual to me. Moreover, the new direction of the DC Universe is intriguing. We had a satisfying journey together. I’m not eagerly anticipating anything, but if it’s worthwhile, I would be open to rejoining the cast.
