OPINION: Decoding Singham Again's Ramayana connection and its impact ahead of Diwali

As a lifelong enthusiast of both Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe and the epic tale of Ramayana, I am beyond ecstatic about the impending release of Singham Again. The trailer alone had me on the edge of my seat, and the intricate Ramayana references only heightened my anticipation.

Approachingly arrives Singham Again, the latest addition to Rohit Shetty’s Police Universe. The teaser, previously unveiled, was rich with allusions to the epic Ramayana, sparking much curiosity among viewers. In this analysis, let’s unravel the connections between Ramayana and Ajay Devgn’s film, and consider how these references might influence the Diwali premiere.

In the same way that Lord Rama rescued Mata Sita in the Ramayana epic, Ajay Devgn’s character Singham will go to extraordinary measures to save Kareena Kapoor’s character Avni in the movie. Arjun Kapoor’s antagonist is loosely based on Ravana. Tiger Shroff, portraying Satya, is depicted as admiring Singham just as Lakshmana worshipped Rama. Ranveer Singh takes on the role of Lord Hanuman, and Akshay Kumar plays Garuda.

In a more natural and easier-to-understand manner, you could say: The Ramayana references seem to be not mere surface details but integral elements of the storyline because Ajay’s character relies on clues from the Hindu epic to save his wife. Not only do we see this in key scenes such as Ajay discovering Kareena’s jewelry and Ranveer paying respect by touching Ajay’s feet, but it also extends to the songs and music within the story.

The new track “Jai Bajrangbali” incorporates numerous scenes that depict Lord Hanuman’s devotion to Rama, and these scenes are intricately woven into the song. For instance, there is a scene showing Ranveer Singh seated on a coiled rope similar to how Hanuman sits on his coiled tail.

From my perspective, effectively incorporating mythological elements within the movie could generate a favorable response and entice viewers to the theater. The film is set to premiere in cinemas on the auspicious festival of Diwali 2024, making it an ideal moment for people to resonate with the story.

In modern days, the Ramayana has served as inspiration for numerous Bollywood movies. This may lead some to perceive it as overused. Yet, if skillfully presented with captivating elements, I believe the movie could still make a unique impact.
