As a gamer of a certain age, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia when I hear about the upcoming movie adaptation of “Oregon Trail.” I remember spending countless hours on that game in school, navigating the perilous journey west with my trusty oxen and covered wagon. The thrill of fording rivers, hunting buffalo, and dealing with the occasional bout of dysentery was unparalleled, especially when compared to my more mundane classroom activities.

The production company successfully secured the proposal for an upcoming film, which is currently being shaped, and will have Will Speck and Josh Gordon on board as both directors and producers. EGOT winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are set to create original music and produce under their Ampersand label. According to insiders, the movie is expected to include a few original musical pieces similar to those found in the film Barbie. (The Hollywood Reporter was informed of this.)

This captivating tale revolves around a wagon train journey through the 19th-century wilderness, recreating the challenging pioneer life. First introduced in 1971, this game gained a cult following among American schoolchildren by the ’90s, thanks to its unique status as one of the first educational computer games allowed in schools and its darkly comic storylines featuring accidents, typhoid, and dysentery.
Caroline Fraser, together with Kevin K. Vafi, is set to create content for HarperCollins Productions – a company that has the rights to the popular video game franchise.
More recently, Gordon Speck and Joshua Pasek collaborated with Paul on Sony’s movie titled “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile“. Notably, this dynamic duo, represented by CAA and Sloane Offer, have also worked on films such as “Blades of Glory ” and “Office Christmas Party“.
Pasek and Paul have recently won an Emmy for their contributions to the final season of “Only Murders in the Building”. Currently, they are represented by Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Kraft-Engel Management, and Schreck Rose.
The Lucas Brothers, who earned an Oscar nomination for their screenplay in “Judas and the Black Messiah”, are managed by Fourth Wall Management, United Talent Agency (UTA), and Hansen Jacobson. Similarly, Reisman is also represented by Fourth Wall Management, UTA, and Jackoway Austen.
