Orlando Bloom Talks Potential Return to The Lord of the Rings

Orlando Bloom Talks Potential Return to The Lord of the Rings

As a lifelong cinephile with a special affection for Middle-earth, I can hardly contain my excitement over the prospect of Orlando Bloom returning to the Lord of the Rings franchise. The memory of Legolas’ elven grace and archery skills under Peter Jackson’s direction is etched deeply into my cinematic psyche.

The popular film series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” books plans to continue in the coming times, potentially featuring the recognizable Elven visage of Orlando Bloom once more. A new movie from actor-director Andy Serkis is underway, called “Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,” which could be where Bloom gets another chance to step into Middle-earth again. Previously, Bloom portrayed Legolas in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, and it appears he’s open to any Lord of the Rings-related roles as long as Jackson is involved.

As a die-hard Lord of the Rings fan, I can’t help but ponder the possibility of revisiting Middle Earth. If the legendary director Peter Jackson, who’s working on The Hunt for Gollum, is along for the ride, count me in! Those films hold a special place in my heart and have played a significant role in my journey as an actor. I’d be more than willing to lend a hand to repay the man who helped shape my career.

Wow, those are incredible! Indeed, it’s mind-boggling to think about how they were made. With AI technology nowadays, it seems like anything is possible. However, if Peter Jackson asks me to leap, I’d respond with ‘as high as you need me to.’ After all, he was the one who kickstarted my professional journey.

During an interview with Variety, Orlando Bloom discussed his thoughts on rejoining the film franchise that propelled him forward, revealing that he has already conversed with Andy Serkis about his forthcoming Gollum movie. Despite being uncertain about the specifics of the upcoming film titled The Hunt for Gollum, Bloom shared that Serkis hinted at using AI as a tool to create the movie and potentially bring Bloom back into the role.

I must admit, I’m unsure about their plans. I did chat with Andy Serkis, and he mentioned they were pondering the best approach for something. My response was along the lines of ‘That sounds challenging!’ To which he replied, ‘AI, actually!’ That moment left a lasting impression on me, as it’s one of those instances where there doesn’t seem to be any negative aspect to it.

It’s unclear which type of AI Orlando Bloom might be referring to, but it’s plausible that Andy Serkis was highlighting the technology as a tool to restore Legolas, the ageless character, to his prime. Deepfake technology and its advancements have been utilized for two main purposes: reviving deceased actors in films or digitally de-aging characters such as Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian. Regardless of the context, it’s challenging to imagine Serkis, or Peter Jackson for that matter, not using visual effects creatively and pushing their boundaries.
