Originally scheduled for January 17th, the announcement of the 97th Oscar nominations had to be postponed until January 19th due to the recent wildfires in Los Angeles. These fires destroyed numerous structures and affected many voters who are part of the Academy. Consequently, the voting period was extended by two days, leading to a delayed announcement.
Due to the ongoing fires in Los Angeles, the Academy adjusted their schedule yet again. They extended the voting period until January 17th, moved the announcement date to January 23rd, and canceled the Oscar Nominees Luncheon. The Academy has shared that they will redirect the $250,000 initially earmarked for this year’s Oscar Nominees Luncheon towards aiding Los Angeles residents impacted by the wildfires.
