otherthings by THE SHOPHOUSE Presents BUNNEY x UNDERCOVER’s Rabbit Padlock Collection

As a gamer, I’m currently immersed in the fascinating world of ‘The Rabbit’, the latest edition from London-based jewelry brand BUNNEY, showcased at otherthings by THE SHOPHOUSE. This captivating publication delves into the historical, cultural, and societal significance of the humble rabbit, spanning two volumes. It offers a thought-provoking journey through the animal’s symbolism across art, natural history, design, and literature.

One of the standout chapters in the newly released edition delves into the Wah-Tung Lock Factory from Hong Kong, a company renowned for crafting mid to high-tier locks and metalware. Notably, they are recognized as the creators of the “Rabbit” padlock, with their products featuring a rabbit motif, the letter ‘R’, or an illustrated rabbit. These widely distributed and economical locks not only adorn many homes today but also symbolize a period when inexpensive, mass-produced metal goods significantly contributed to Hong Kong’s industrial growth.

In cultural history, the Rabbit padlock became well-known when Sid Vicious from the Sex Pistols wore it as a necklace, keeping the key inside. To honor this legendary tale, BUNNEY has partnered with UNDERCOVER to launch a unique Rabbit Padlock collection, showcased in the otherthings space. This collection includes items like the Rabbit Padlock Keyring, Rabbit Padlock Necklace, Rabbit Padlock Bracelet, Rabbit Padlock Necklace with Small Hook, and the Rabbit Padlock Bracelet with Small Hook. The assortment comes in different sizes and is crafted from satin-finished 925 sterling silver with enamel fill.

You can find both editions of “Selected Works” on sale at otherthings by THE SHOPHOUSE up to February 9, 2025.
