Our Happy Place will have its International Premiere at Raindance Film Festival on 20th June.
Dogwood Cinema is thrilled to mark the world debut of “Our Happy Place” at the Raindance Film Festival on the 20th of June.
Raya, a solitary woman tending to her bedbound spouse, is persistently disturbed by nightmarish visions. Each day finds her waking up in a forest, sinking further into freshly dug pits hidden beneath her feet. As spectral entities harass her and the boundary between fantasy and existence starts to blur, she uncovers a chilling truth concealed within the woods – and within herself.
The movie was created and produced while the pandemic was ongoing. Despite the quarantine restrictions, Bickel and Miles filmed everything near their home outside Los Angeles. Later, as constraints lessened, they brought two additional cast members to set for expanded production. The confined feeling of being indoors during quarantine is evident in the film’s cinematography.
In the movie known as “Our Happy Place,” acting newcomers Raya Miles and Paul Bickel take center stage, alongside Tracie Thoms (known for her roles in Rent, Looper, The Devil Wears Prada), Eugene Byrd (8 Mile, True Blood, American Horror Story). Notably, Paul Bickel, who has previously directed short films such as “Hollow” and “Turning Japanese,” makes his feature directing debut with this film, having written it as well.
