Universal Pictures’ biographical film about Snoop Dogg, the legendary rapper, is making its way forward and illuminating his life on the big screen.
As a gamer, I’m hyped about stepping into the shoes of Jonathan Daviss, who’s been cast in the main role for Craig Brewer’s latest project. Known for movies like “Coming 2 America” and “Hustle & Flow”, Brewer is reworking a script by Joe Robert Cole that follows Calvin Broadus Jr.’s thrilling journey to fame as Snoop Dogg. Can’t wait to see how this tale unfolds!
The creators behind this project are Snoop Dogg, Brian Grazer and Sarah Ramaker, who serves as president at Death Row Pictures. This is the inaugural venture under Death Row Pictures’ agreement with NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios. Ryan Jones, Universal’s senior vice president of production development, supervises the film production for the studio.
Davis gained recognition for his groundbreaking portrayal of Pope Heyward on the Netflix adventure series “Outer Banks,” which was recently renewed for its fifth and final season. At just 25 years old, this talented actor has also made an appearance in the Netflix film “Do Revenge.
Snoop Dogg is a renowned artist who has earned 17 Grammy nominations and established himself in television and film. His first album, titled “Doggystyle“, was released in 1993 under Death Row Records, with Dr. Dre being the sole producer. This album gave birth to popular tracks such as “What’s My Name?” and “Gin and Juice.
Music biopics continue to be highly sought after in Hollywood, with recent hits like Paramount’s “Bob Marley: One Love” and Searchlight’s “A Complete Unknown,” starring Timothée Chalamet, which focuses on Bob Dylan and received eight Oscar nominations. Sony is planning a four-film series about the Beatles for release in April 2028, while the Bruce Springsteen biopic “Deliver Me From Nowhere” is set to premiere this fall.
