OutKast Earns First Diamond Single With "Hey Ya!"

As a gamer with decades of musical journey under my belt, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia as OutKast‘s “Hey Ya!” achieves the coveted diamond status. This track was an integral part of my late-2000s playlist, providing a rhythmic backdrop to countless gaming sessions and sleepless nights. It’s like seeing an old friend reach a significant milestone, reminding me of the memories we shared together.

OutKast has reached a significant achievement, with their 2003 hit song “Hey Ya!” now recognized as a diamond-certified record by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) verified that the track Speakerboxxx/The Love Below has achieved sales of 10 million units in the U.S., joining its album which was certified diamond back in December 2004, a milestone reached only fifteen months after its debut. “Hey Ya!” was actually the second single released from this album, and it garnered the duo a GRAMMY for Best Urban/Alternative Performance, as well as nominations for Record of the Year and Best Music Video.

In a recent chat with Rolling Stone magazine, André 3000 admitted that it’s unlikely we’ll see a new OutKast album or tour, as he and Big Boi are more distant from the idea than ever before. He elaborated, “I believe it’s about our chemistry – we need to genuinely want to do it. It’s tough for me to write rap music these days, and sometimes I feel that things should just be left alone.” André also revealed that OutKast songs demand a specific vitality that he no longer desires to exhibit onstage at his current age.
