Outlander Stars Reveal What They Want To Take From Set As Filming Wraps On Final Season, And I Really Hope Sam Heughan Gets His Pick

As a long-time Outlander enthusiast who has followed the epic saga of Claire and Jamie Fraser since its inception, I must say that the recent news about the final day of filming for Season 8 has left me with an emotional rollercoaster of feelings.

Although fans are eagerly anticipating the second half of Outlander Season 7 in 2024, the cast has been tirelessly working on Season 8, which is their last. With just about two months left before Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe reappear on our TV screens, production has wrapped up, and some entertaining behind-the-scenes photos hint at what the actors are hoping to keep as souvenirs from the set. While all choices are appealing, I believe Heughan takes the lead.

On Instagram, the official Outlander account announced that Friday, September 27 marked the end of filming for Starz’s popular series. It remains unclear if this final episode will provide answers to all time travel mysteries within the show. A group photograph was taken featuring long-time cast members, new Season 7 actors, and some characters who haven’t appeared for a while. Here is the picture for your perusal:

All actors selected interesting items they’d like to keep from set, and it makes perfect sense that Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan appear together in the first photo, yearning for “EVERYTHING!” Among my favorite picks are Richard Rankin, who wishes to abandon his Roger character with “MY DIGNITY”; Balfe dreams of taking a “NAP” along with some restful sleep; and John Bell covets his “Tomohawk & War Club,” even sketching them with a marker.

I do feel like the post saved the best for last with Heughan listing “JAMIE’S KILT?!” as his choice, because he really went above and beyond with a full drawing of Jamie wearing his kilt. Is it a great drawing? Maybe not, but nobody is going to win any art awards with a dry erase board! Plus, Jamie having to leave the tartan behind more and more over the years hasn’t stopped kilt talk from continuing, with Heughan admitting that he missed wearing the garment in Season 4 before its comeback in Season 6.

It seems more likely that Sam Heughan will get to keep a kilt from his time on Outlander, compared to Sophie Skelton getting a Mustang. In fact, Sam has even posted numerous photos of himself in the kilt, dating back to when he first played Jamie. You can view his post here:

In the earlier episodes, Jamie might be known for sporting the kilt, but looking at those photos brings back memories of Sam Heughan being equally covered in fake blood and wearing messy wigs on various occasions. His caption is heartwarming too, acknowledging Caitriona Balfe as his “exceptional co-conspirator.

Although it’s a mix of joy and sadness to bid farewell to this chapter, there’s plenty of series left to enjoy before the grand finale. The much-anticipated second half of Season 7 will start airing on Friday, November 22 at 8 p.m. ET on Starz. Until then, you can catch up on their early days together by streaming previous seasons with a Netflix subscription.
