However, it seems that this preference might not just be a laughing matter, as studies indicate that players would rather engage with the licensed game by NetEase.
Based on data from SteamDB and The Gamer, the launch of Rivals has resulted in a continuous decrease in the player base for the sequel to Overwatch. Since its release, the player count has dropped by an alarming 39%, which is concerning for Activision Blizzard. Although Overwatch 2 isn’t completely doomed, it seems that they have significantly lost support from their fanbase.
The narrative surrounding Overwatch 2 has become chaotic due to its initial promise of innovative elements such as a PvE mode centered around storytelling. Regrettably, this aspect was abandoned, leaving gamers with an upgraded yet less appealing version of the original first-person shooter. With Marvel Rivals now available, offering more captivating characters, it’s not hard to understand why there have been such significant shifts.
In the case of this renowned shooter game, there’s been no shortage of debate, as the initial Season 1 update took away mods from the gameplay. However, resourceful modders have discovered loopholes, which haven’t significantly dampened the overall gaming experience. Given its launch with an impressive roster of characters and appealing cosmetics, it’s no surprise that this popular title continues to capture the hearts of many gamers.
