Padma Bhushan and Bihar Kokila, Sharda Sinha, passes away at 72; son Anshuman Sinha breaks the sad news

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for music and culture, I am deeply saddened by the demise of the legendary folk singer Sharda Sinha. Her rich contribution to the Indian music industry was not only limited to her iconic folk songs but also extended to devotional and commercial tracks.

Recently, renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha, who received the Padma Shri honor, was admitted to AIIMS Hospital in Delhi due to illness. She was put on a ventilator and underwent treatment for a couple of days. Regretfully, she passed away today (November 5). Her son Anshuman Sinha shared the sad news via her official Instagram account.

Sharda Sinha was well-recognized for her significant impact on the music world. Notably, her rendition of classic folk songs kept her in the spotlight all year long. However, during specific times, such as now when many people across the nation are joyously observing Chhath Puja, Sharda’s melodious voice was particularly noticeable over loudspeakers.

On this day, regrettably, the renowned artist took her final journey to a celestial dwelling. Just moments ago, Anshuman Sinha, her son, confirmed her passing with a heavy heart. On her Instagram account, he shared a photograph of his beloved mother and conveyed that Sharda Sinha is now beyond our reach. He wrote in Hindi that his mother has been summoned by the divine.

Take a look:

As reported by Republic World, the individual who passed away had been fighting multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, since 2018. Recently, Anshuman shared an update about his mother’s health on his YouTube channel, stating that her condition has deteriorated and she is currently on a ventilator. He also asked for prayers for her quick recovery. It appears that Sharda Sinha is devastated following the unexpected death of her husband, Brij Kishore Sinha, earlier in the year.

Born in Bihar, Sinha was well-known for her renditions of regional songs in Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magahi, and Hindi. Not only did she lend her voice to devotional music, but she also sang a few commercial tracks. For those unaware, she sang the song “Kahe Toh Se Sajna” from Salman Khan’s 1989 film Maine Pyar Kia. Moreover, she is recognized for the songs “Taar Bijli” from Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur 2 and “Kaun Si Nagaria” from the movie Chaarfutiya Chhokare, among others.

Deep sympathy is extended to the loved ones and admirers of Sharda Sinha, as they grieve over the loss of the revered ‘Bihar Kokila.’
