The timing for these audition tapes couldn’t be more ideal. With doubts growing about another James Bond movie in our lifetime, a bit of nostalgia seems like just the right balm for this harsh truth. Fans of 007 are ecstatic at the prospect of glimpsing a film that might have been, while “The Boys” enthusiasts are delighted by the subtle hints of Homelander in Starr’s Bond audition. In one of the tapes, Starr reenacts a scene from “GoldenEye” where Bond converses with Xenia Onatopp at a bar. It’s hard to envision anyone other than Daniel Craig embodying Bond in “Casino Royale” and subsequent movies, but this tape suggests that Starr may not have been quite ready back then (his British accent leaves much to be desired). However, it also hints that even two decades ago, Starr was destined for the role of Homelander.
