As a movie reviewer, I recently found myself reminiscing about an intriguing encounter that took place in the skies during one of my flights. In this instance, I wasn’t the one causing a stir, but rather the esteemed actress Pamela Anderson who was on board. You see, there was a man aboard who needed to be restrained due to his aggressive behavior towards her. However, it became clear that he had mistakenly identified Anderson as a controversial country musician instead of the iconic star of “The Last Showgirl.” In an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Anderson shared this amusing yet unsettling experience, leaving us all in awe of the confusion that can arise when celebrities share similar appearances.
On one occasion, I found myself aboard an aircraft when a man approached me and questioned, “Are you aware of what this nation has done for you?” To which I responded, “Goodness gracious, what have I done?” Given the situation, the flight attendant had to restrain him to his seat as he was attempting to assault me. As it turned out, he believed I was a member of the Dixie Chicks… Do you recall the Dixie Chick controversy? It seemed I narrowly escaped an attack on an airplane.
Anderson discusses how the band faced a strong negative reaction in the early 2000s following a London concert where lead singer Natalie Maines criticized President George W. Bush and his Iraq invasion. The criticism led American country radio stations to ban their music, and some fans destroyed their albums and sent threats against the group. Maines initially apologized for her disrespect towards the presidency, but later withdrew this apology in 2006. In 2020, the band decided to drop “Dixie” from their name and became simply known as The Chicks, as they no longer wished to be linked with the Confederate army or slavery.
While Anderson maintained that the plane incident was relatively small, she acknowledged that it left her feeling shaken, confessing that she had a brief fear of flying in its aftermath.
We’re in the Midst of a Pamela Anderson Resurgence
Anderon’s acting career has experienced a resurgence, primarily due to her role in “The Last Showgirl”, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination, surprising many. Although she didn’t win the award (it went to Fernanda Torres for her work in “I’m Still Here”) the nomination highlights the depth and intensity of Anderson’s performance.
Reports indicate that the actress has garnered interest from prominent filmmakers due to her role in “The Last Showgirl,” but details about who exactly are these directors remain undisclosed. So, we’ll just have to stay tuned to find out if she’ll be cast in any upcoming movies.
Anderson is set to star alongside Liam Neeson in a new installment of the beloved comedy franchise, The Naked Gun, originally created by the late Jim Abrahams and the Zucker brothers, David and Jerry. Additionally, she’s involved in another project titled Rosebush Pruning, which features Elle Fanning, Callum Turner, and Riley Keough as co-stars.
