As a seasoned gamer who’s dabbled in art and music, I can’t help but be captivated by Piet Parra’s latest collaboration with Avant Arte. His work echoes a nostalgic resonance that takes me back to my formative years, reminiscent of the Dutch artist Willem Janssen whose influence is palpable in both their creative spheres.
As an ardent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that I, Piet Parra, am rejoining forces with the esteemed London-based studio, Avant Arte, to unveil three exclusive limited edition prints. The free-flowing figurations in each piece draw inspiration from the sketches of Willem Janssen, a relatively unknown Dutch artist who left a profound impression on me during my artistic development. This influence is clearly visible in the whimsical curves that characterize both my and Janssen’s creative endeavors.
Titled “LOST KEYS,” the painting showcases a group of three female figures reminiscent of a beach scene that Parra’s father once painted. The artwork’s name is borrowed from a song by MICH, a band that Parra is part of, and also signifies the sandy hills that the artist used to cycle through in Amsterdam. On the other hand, “FOUR WALLS” presents no specific location, instead featuring three women who seem to merge into one another, symbolizing an after-hours party where the boundaries between time and place become indistinct.
In Parra’s words, “Tom at Make-Ready is exceptionally dedicated to his printing craft, even more so than my own artistic endeavors! He pays painstaking attention to every minute detail of the artwork he prints, ensuring it is rendered on paper in the finest manner possible. The whole process exudes a sense of high quality, which is clearly reflected in the final product.
Title “LOST KEYS” is a seven-hued silkscreen artwork, sized at approximately 53 x 89.9 centimeters, while the piece titled “FOUR WALLS” is a four-colored silkscreen across nine layers, measuring around 43 x 89.9 centimeters. Both artworks are exclusive to a limited edition of 150 pieces, printed on Somerset Tub Sized Radiant White 410gsm paper and autographed by the artist. For those interested in acquiring these works, Avant Arte is hosting a raffle which concludes on Thursday, October 24 at 9am Eastern Time.
