The television series “Survivor” has been home to several unforgettable pairs who ruled the game side by side, and among these duos, Parvati Shallow and Amanda Kimmel stand out as particularly cherished. Collaborating effectively, they formed part of the Black Widow Brigade (along with Cirie, Natalie, and Alexis) and significantly contributed to making “Micronesia” one of the most celebrated seasons in the show’s history. However, it appears that their relationship may not be as friendly as it once was today, as they no longer seem to exchange holiday greetings.
Lately, Shallow penned a memoir titled “Nice Girls Don’t Win“, and in conjunction with the book promotion, she has been granting numerous interviews discussing her personal life and her experiences on Survivor. In an interview with US Magazine, she was questioned about her current situation with Amanda. Unfortunately, for those who had hoped that time would mend their rift, Shallow stated that their relationship did not recover after “Micronesia“, and she believes the lingering tension might stem from unresolved feelings regarding how the season concluded.
Shallow and Kimmel forged an alliance with several other female contestants, systematically eliminating the male competitors. As the season progressed, they found themselves both at the Final Tribal Council, arguing their case to claim the grand prize of one million dollars. In the end, the remaining three women from the Black Widow Brigade sided with Parvati, contributing to her eventual victory and earning herself a million-dollar payout. I had a wonderful bond with Amanda. We shared a lovely friendship that others often mimic in photos, which always brings tears to my eyes… Playing Survivor repeatedly at a young age is challenging. It’s even more difficult when you play it back-to-back and lose twice in the final Tribal Council. She’s an amazing strategist. It would be tough for anyone, and our close gameplay throughout made it even harder. I emerged victorious, but she couldn’t quite grasp why she lost.
It seems logical to interpret that final vote as causing a divide between the two individuals. However, according to Shallow’s analysis, it’s likely not the sole cause of the rift. Kimmel parted ways with co-contestant and Survivor legend Ozzy Lusth after leaving the island. During the early stages of the season, Parvati appeared to be quite friendly with Amanda and Ozzy. However, following the merge, she saw an opening and strategically aligned Cirie, Alexis, and Natalie to eliminate Ozzy without Amanda’s consent. This move created a clear distrust between the two women moving forward.

Initially, our friendship deteriorated due to an unexpected move on my part that left Ozzy feeling betrayed. There was probably a hint of jealousy as well, with him questioning why me instead of him. Ozzy seemed to become more valuable, like a sought-after star in the sky. Our relationship never truly healed, and during Heroes vs. Villains, we found ourselves at odds once more. It was unfortunate because I believe she’s quite remarkable and skilled at Survivor. If only she could participate in season 50!
Many people, just like shallow, are eagerly anticipating Jimmy Kimmel’s participation in ‘Survivor 50’. The highly anticipated all-star season, now being filmed in Fiji, has brought back 24 previous players of diverse talent levels. There were strong whispers that Amanda would be part of the cast, but it’s reported she stepped down at the last possible moment, much to the dismay of fans who had hoped to see her make a comeback since the ‘Heroes Vs Villains’, which was last aired in 2010.
This season, Shallow isn’t making an appearance because she wasn’t asked to rejoin (mostly because she hasn’t won before), but Ozzy will be back for another round. It would have been thrilling to watch him team up with Amanda one more time. Their relationship now is unclear since they have parted ways, but viewers would have loved to see how their dynamic unfolded again.
No matter what their relationship status is, Parvati and Amanda will forever be known as an unforgettable pair from the series, having played significant roles in one of the show’s most cherished seasons. Alongside other memorable characters, they helped shape a season that has become synonymous with love among fans. It seems almost impossible to find any ‘best of’ list without Micronesia on it, just as it’s rare to see a roster of the most admired and well-known players in the show’s history that doesn’t include both Amanda and Parvati.
