Pathé Cinémas Named CineEurope’s International Exhibitor of the Year

2025 sees Pathé Cinémas honored as the “International Exhibitor of the Year,” an accolade to be presented at CineEurope, the annual gathering of the International Union of Cinemas (UNIC), taking place in Barcelona on June 16. This prestigious award will be received by Pathé president Jérôme Seydoux on behalf of the company.

Andrew Sunshine, head of The Film Expo Group (which organizes CineEurope), commended Pathé for pushing forward the European cinema industry. He stated that Pathé “has consistently been a pioneer and front-runner in the EU region, fostering a culture of modernization within cinemas and enhancing the movie-watching experience for their patrons.”

He emphasized that they have continued to be a trailblazer and leader across the EU region, promoting a modern approach to cinemas and redefining the movie-going experience for their audience members.

Based in France, Pathé ranks as the fourth largest movie theater chain in Europe by the number of screens, managing a total of 129 cinemas spread across 8 countries: France, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal, and Ivory Coast, with a combined screen count of 1,318. Additionally, Pathé is a significant player in the French film industry, not only as an exhibitor but also as a producer and distributor.

Laura Houlgatte, CEO of UNIC (the Union of European Film Exhibitors), mentioned that as a child, she “developed a love for cinema” at a Pathé theater. She was “delighted” to present the company with their exhibitor award, stating that Pathé, being a pioneer in the industry, both in France and Europe, consistently demonstrates a harmonious blend of innovation and operational proficiency.

This year’s CineEurope runs June 16-19.
