Patralekhaa says she hates being referred to as ‘Rajkummar Rao’s wife’ and we can totally feel her

Patralekhaa has openly stated that she dislikes being referred to as “Rajkummar Rao’s wife.” In a conversation with Galatta India, the actress voiced her annoyance about being predominantly recognized due to her marital status. She expressed her dislike for this situation, stating it makes her feel insignificant, saying, “I really hate it… I detest it, and I feel very small.” Moreover, she emphasized that despite having a distinct identity of her own, her name tends to fade into the background compared to her well-known spouse. In her words, “Kyunki mera ek naam hai… mera ek astitva hai,” which translates to “Because I have a name… I have an identity.

Despite receiving accolades for her work, including her part in Phule, Patralekhaa revealed that her professional struggles persist. She mentioned that people often presume her path must’ve been effortless due to her relationship with a famous actor. However, this isn’t true. “It’s never straightforward when you’re striving for individual recognition… building your own career trajectory… It’s quite challenging,” she stated.

As an ardent admirer putting it in my words, I’ve noticed a concerning trend in my acting career that I felt compelled to share. Time and again, I find myself receiving film scripts, not because these creators truly value my skills or see me as the perfect fit for their project. Instead, they seem to view me merely as a means to an end—a pathway to Rajkummar Rao. In a nutshell, it appears that many filmmakers are more interested in casting my husband than acknowledging my own talent and potential.

She strongly conveyed that she considers such behavior extremely disrespectful and firmly stated that she won’t consider such proposals. In her opinion, it’s unbecoming of her dignity. Moreover, she has consistently drawn a line between her professional life and Rajkummar’s, opting not to participate in projects where her involvement might be driven by hidden agendas.

Patralekhaa earnestly requested the media and the industry to avoid categorizing her solely with a label. She expressed discomfort with such an image and vowed to fight against it as long as possible.

In a notable progression in her professional journey, Patralekhaa has been involved in a succession of meaningful roles that demonstrate her adaptability and dedication to narrative expression. In 2025, she embarked on the demanding character of Savitribai Phule in the biopic Phule, helmed by Ananth Mahadevan.

The film explores the lives of social reformers Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule, featuring Pratik Gandhi as Jyotirao. The portrayal of Savitribai, an early advocate for women’s education and a fierce fighter against caste prejudice, by Patralekhaa garnered widespread praise from critics.
