Patrick J. Adams Says ‘Suits’ “Walked So that ‘Succession’ Could Run”

As a gamer with a keen eye for TV show dynamics and a heart full of nostalgia, I can’t help but see the striking similarities between “Suits” and “Succession”. Patrick J. Adams has hit the nail on the head when he suggested that “Suits walked so that Succession could run.

Patrick J. Adams is standing firm that “Suits walked so that Succession could run.”

In a recent episode of their podcast titled “Sidebar: A Suits Watch Podcast“, the actor who portrayed Mike Ross on the hit legal drama suggested that “Suits” could be seen as an early version of the highly acclaimed show, “Succession,” produced by HBO.

In my gaming world, let me share some connections we’ve got. There’s Dagmara, she was in “Succession” and also in “Suits”. Ring any bells? Remember the doctor in the “Suits” pilot who gave Mike a drug test? That was Rob Yang! And guess what, he also starred in the pilot of “Succession” too.

In addition to his remarks about Plan B, the actor mentioned that Kevin Bray, who played a significant role in shaping the appearance and atmosphere of Suits by directing and producing several early episodes, has also directed some episodes of Succession.

Adams clarified that both stories share common themes. “Both take place in New York City, and they revolve around influential figures maneuvering within the upper echelons of New York’s societal hierarchy,” he further explained.

Although Rafferty, known for her role as Donna Paulsen on Suits, agreed with Adams’ arguments, she also highlighted a significant distinction between the two shows.

She mentioned that they were located in a remarkably distinct spot compared to where we were during the Golden Globes. This comment was made in reference to the significant acclaim ‘Succession’ received among awards voters, as it won nine Golden Globes and 19 Emmys over its run from 2018-2023.

As a passionate fan, I can’t help but admit they had to play by the rules more on the “PG” version of Suits. This might be because Suits was a nine-season series on USA Network, which is a basic cable channel with certain restrictions, in contrast to Succession, airing on HBO – a premium cable network that offers greater creative freedom regarding character dialogue and actions.

Interestingly, the TV series “Suits,” originally airing from 2011 to 2019, experienced a revival following its debut on Netflix last year, making it the most-watched show throughout an entire year. In addition, a spinoff titled “Suits L.A.” is currently being developed.
