The much-anticipated new “Star Trek” series isn’t too far away, but before that, there’s a surprise trip back to “space” with Patrick Stewart. Despite his on-screen likeness to Captain Picard in recent advertisements, this promotion is unrelated to any kind of starship. Instead, it’s the return of another beloved icon, the DeLorean car, cherished by many geeks alike.
Robert Zemeckis has stated there won’t be another “Back To The Future” film, but efforts are ongoing to keep the DeLorean functioning indefinitely. A recent online advertisement showcasing Stewart in a spacecraft has appeared, hinting at continued attempts to revive the vehicle that served as a time machine in the famous series.

Upon learning that Patrick Stewart was considering a fresh Picard script, I must admit this wasn’t the direction I had envisioned. Still, it brings me pleasure to think of one of Star Trek’s most distinguished characters assuming command again, though for legal reasons, it likely won’t be Jean-Luc Picard manning the spaceship and discussing the reappearance of the DeLorean with us.

I’ve just discovered that the classic Star Trek joke with the most enduring appeal was inspired by George Wendt. Now, my admiration for it has grown even stronger!
If you’re intrigued by the seemingly more streamlined DeLorean model, here’s a heads-up: To secure one for yourself, head to their official booking platform and marketplace, but do keep in mind there’s a condition. You’ll need to buy a $2,500 NFT (Non-Fungible Token), which secures your spot among the initial buyers of this new vehicle. A glimpse of it can be seen from behind in their commercial, however, a full image of the car isn’t available on the reservation website yet.
While I enjoy watching Patrick Stewart as the suave spokesperson for modern transit, I can’t help but ponder when we might catch him again in a Star Trek role. The final episode of Picard Season 3 seemed to suggest that this could be the end of the road for him and his TNG colleagues, yet whispers persist about another film, and fans are clamoring for Picard to embark on another adventure with a new series legacy.
It seems clear that the ad and his role in Marvel suggest that the 84-year-old actor remains keen on Hollywood projects. But it’s important to note that appearing in an advertisement differs significantly from starring in a multi-year streaming series. I’d be thrilled if Sir Patrick Stewart embarks on more escapades, but I have my doubts whether this ad marks his final space voyages. Fingers crossed, I may be mistaken, but if not, we can still marvel at his extensive career for years to come.
Catch up on “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Picard” over on Paramount+. I can’t wait to learn more about the latest DeLorean, and if we’re lucky enough to see a reunion of the original “Back to the Future” cast in a promotional ad someday.
