As someone who has spent years immersed in the vibrant world of music and fashion, I can confidently say that this collaboration between Patta and Seun Kuti is a harmonious fusion of two powerful forces. The Amsterdam-based label’s growth in Nigeria, particularly with their Lagos flagship store, mirrors the global reach of Afrobeat, a genre that has its roots in Africa but resonates universally.
For the Fall/Winter 2024 season, streetwear brand 88ZN’s lookbook premiere saw Patta team up with renowned Nigerian musician Seun Kuti. Together, they released a collaborative t-shirt that highlights his significant impact on the Afrobeat music genre.
The Dutch label based in Amsterdam has expanded its influence in Nigeria, commemorating the grand opening of its Lagos flagship store by supporting and enriching the local music scene. As a prominent figure in Afrobeat, Seun Kuti, son of the Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, stands alongside his late father as a musical legend.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t wait for Kuti’s upcoming collaborative album with Egypt 80! In a powerful move to support his ongoing fight for social justice in Africa, he’s teamed up with Patta for an inspiring T-shirt. The front is a crisp white backdrop adorned with Patta’s signature script on the upper left, while the back showcases lively graphics inspired by their new album titled Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head). The design features an eagle perched atop books and peace symbols, along with a silhouette of the African continent – a bold representation of Kuti’s unwavering spirit.
Check out the collaborative T-shirt collection between Patta and Seun Kuti, displayed in the gallery above. This collection is set to be released both in physical stores and online at Patta on August 23.
