In the second season of John Cena’s HBO Max series, Peacemaker, he is set to confront what could be the most terrifying beast encountered so far within the DC Universe, namely a formidable and supposedly frightening entity.
What does the new behind-the-scenes image reveal about Peacemaker Season 2?
Below, you’ll find an image displaying DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn capturing a detailed shot of a black, rubbery creature with four fiery red eyes, elongated claws, and a design suggestive of the Xenomorph from the Alien series. This creature is seen clutching a small, hairless rodent-like companion. As of now, it remains undetermined what function this monster may have in Peacemaker Season 2.
The second series of “Peacemaker” is scheduled to premiere three years following the first, which was a part of the now-completed DC Extended Universe. Even though “Peacemaker” moves from the DCEU to the DCU, most events from Season 1 will remain significant. Regarding what’s been altered or removed, director James Gunn plans to clarify the changes between these universes through his newly launched “Peacemaker Podcast.
In a recent conversation, Peter Safran and I clarified something many people have been puzzled about since we took over DC: what exactly is part of the DC Universe? To put it simply, this universe is where Superman resides, as well as where characters like the Creature Commandos are found. Until now, these are the only elements that are absolutely confirmed to be canon.
In other words, occurrences from the DCEU could be considered part of the DCU’s official storyline if they are alluded to or referenced by characters. John Gunn further clarified that this applies to Peacemaker Season 2 as well. While the show is firmly established within the DC universe, minor adjustments had to be made in Season 1 to align with its continuity.
In the world of DC, I eagerly anticipate delving deeper into the narrative of Peacemaker Season 2. This upcoming chapter is set to intertwine with the events of James Gunn’s 2021 DCEU film, The Suicide Squad. In this continuation, we will encounter Frank Grillo’s character, Rick Flag Sr., who finds himself on a quest for justice or perhaps seeking revenge against Peacemaker. The reason being, in the superhero movie, it was revealed that Peacemaker was responsible for the demise of Rick Flag Jr., his son.
In the second season of Peacemaker, we’ll see some familiar faces from DCEU/DCU reprising their roles. These include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Steve Agee as John Economos, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Nhut Le as Judomaster. Other actors are also expected to appear.
Peacemaker Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025.
