As a huge fan of both compelling storytelling and iconic moments in history, I cannot contain my excitement for Peacock’s upcoming limited series, “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.” The trailer alone has me hooked with its A-list cast, intriguing plot, and the nostalgic vibe of the 1970s setting.
Peacock unveiled an enticing trailer for the upcoming limited series “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist.” This production boasts a star-studded cast and is set in the groovy ’70s era, vividly showcased throughout the preview.
The show is inspired by actual events, as hinted in the trailer with the phrase “some real-life stuff about…,” centering around an armed robbery that occurred on the night of Muhammad Ali’s 1970 comeback fight in Atlanta. Additionally, it will explore how Atlanta earned its reputation as a significant hub for African Americans in the US.
In late December 2023, I excitedly placed an order for the new series. The show is adapted from a popular iHeart podcast created by Jeff Keating, who also served as its host, and Jim Roberts. I’m thrilled that Kevin Hart will be starring in it! He plays the charismatic character of Chicken Man, who throws an extravagant afterparty for the wealthy elite following a major fight. However, the night takes a dramatic turn with an audacious heist taking place in Atlanta. With Chicken Man under suspicion, he’s determined to prove his innocence. To do so, he must win over his longtime adversary, J.D. Hudson (played by Don Cheadle), one of the city’s pioneering Black detectives, who is committed to bringing the criminals to justice.
Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard, and Samuel L. Jackson join the cast as prominent stars. Chloe Bailey, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Dexter Darden, Lori Harvey, and Sinqua Walls make significant appearances in the production.
As a huge fan, I’d like to share that Shaye Ogbonna, the brilliant mind behind “The Chi” on Penguin, collaborates closely with Jason Horwitch as co-showrunners for this Universal Television production. We, the passionate team, executive produce alongside Hart, Bryan Smiley, Mike Stein from Hartbeat; Will Packer and Sabrina Wind from Will Packer Media; Conal Byrne and Carrie Lieberman from iHeartPodcasts; and Keating through Doghouse Pictures, LLC. Craig Brewer also joins us as an executive producer and director of four episodes. Tiffany Brown and Kenny Burns from Hartbeat are our dedicated co-EPs.
Fight Night is set to premiere Sept. 5. Watch the trailer below.
