As a long-time comic book fan and someone who has been eagerly awaiting the return of The Fantastic Four to the big screen, I can’t contain my excitement as production finally begins on this highly anticipated Marvel Studios project. Having grown up reading the classic stories of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm, the news that Disney had secured the rights and was moving forward with a new film adaptation was music to my ears.
As a devoted fan, I’ve been eagerly waiting for this moment for years – The Fantastic Four is officially coming to life under Disney and Marvel Studios! After Fox lost the rights, it was only a matter of time before this cherished comic book series became one of the most anticipated projects in MCU’s Phase 6. With a solidified cast announced back in February, we’ve been hopeful that production would start soon. Now, I can barely contain my excitement as we have confirmation – Reed Richards himself, Pedro Pascal, has shared a selfie confirming that they’ve begun shooting! Though I’m thrilled about the latest update, I can hardly wait to witness this fantastic quartet don their iconic costumes.
Pascal marked the beginning of production on “Fantastic Four” with a charming photo featuring co-stars Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. In this film, Kirby and Quinn will portray the Storm siblings, while Moss-Bachrach is cast as The Thing. Seeing these talented actors together brings the upcoming movie to life even more for me. Additionally, Pascal shared a picture of Matt Shakman on his social media, who will direct the Marvel production under his post. As a fan, I can’t help but feel thrilled by the recent cast announcement for The Fantastic Four shared by Disney. In the photo, they’re dressed casually, hinting that they’re still in the pre-production phase and not yet filming on set. It’s an intriguing glimpse, yet it leaves me yearning to see them in their iconic costumes.
In the MCU, we’ve encountered one version of Reed Richards played by John Krasinski in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” Marvel chose a traditional look for this character, blending elements from Miles Teller’s suit in “Fantastic Four” (2015) and Ioan Gruffudd’s attire in his 2005 portrayal. However, given the potential introduction of a new universe, I suspect Marvel may opt for a distinctive take on The Fantastic Four, diverging significantly from previous on-screen depictions.
Kevin Feige has confirmed that “The Fantastic Four” will be set in the 1960s, as suggested by Disney’s initial vintage artwork. This could influence the costumes, as explored in “WandaVision,” which was also set during this time. Although it’s all speculation at this point based on the illustrations, the potential suit designs are intriguing and offer an opportunity for Marvel to uniquely portray these characters in their upcoming reimagining. We can only wait until production officially begins to see how this iconic quartet will be brought to life.
