This game boasts stunning and engaging visuals, and its turn-based RPG style showcases clear influences from its genre peers. While I’m not referring to the unique Persona aspect, my focus is solely on the user interface design.

However, our conversation today is centered around the top-notch characters from the game Persona 5, so let’s delve into the Phantom X ranking list of this game before we proceed.

Best characters in Persona 5: The Phantom X

As you probably know by now,
The Phantom X has added Joker (Ren Amamiya), which is available at release
. This is one of the most iconic characters in the series, and to be fair, he’s not just a good-looking character; he’s also one of the strongest right now.

Among Joker, Rin, Panther, Cattle, and a number of others, there are those who stand out more than the rest. For optimal results, it is advisable to focus on enhancing your strongest characters immediately following a draw from the random selection pool (gacha).

In Persona 5: The Phantom X tier list, all the characters have been ranked according to their actual name, not their codename or their Persona. That should make it a little bit easier for newer players to get accustomed to each of the characters!

Additionally, the list categorizes each character, starting with the S+ tier (the best ranking), followed by the S and A tiers. It’s advisable to strive for characters from these high-tier categories when you can, and strategically place them within your team or group.

1 S+ tier

  • Ren Amamiya

In the game Persona 5: The Phantom X, Ren Amamiya (Joker) is among the characters with high damaging capabilities. However, his strength heavily relies on accumulating Will of Rebellion stacks. If everything falls into place, he can earn an additional turn, but it’s not always straightforward to utilize him effectively in various game scenarios.

Seiji Shiratori, particularly in Fleuret form, excels at dealing damage to a single opponent, yet he requires several boosts. Given that he’s a 4-star character, his damage output may not match Joker’s (or similar characters), but he remains a dependable and potent choice, earning him a place in this tier of effectiveness.

In simpler terms, Lufel (Cattle) is a robust healer you’ll acquire during your tutorial. He can amplify fire damage, boost the attack power of your team, and inflict reasonable damage as well. Cattle is an excellent choice for a starting team, and later on, becomes even more effective when partnered with Panther (Ann Takamaki).

2 S tier

  • Leo Kamiyama
  • Kayo Tomiyama

Ann Takamaki, also known as Panther, is capable of inflicting Area-of-Effect Fire damage, making her particularly effective against groups of foes. She has the ability to boost her own attack power, making her a versatile 5-star character who can easily fit into various teams. Additionally, she’s user-friendly and dependable in combat.

Morgana, often called Mona, is an excellent Medic to include in your team, particularly when paired with Fleuret. The reason being, Mona can apply the Windswept effect with its initial ability, Missile Whirlwind, creating a powerful duo. Additionally, Mona has the ability to heal teammates, serving as a good support member if needed.

León Kamiyama, also known as Leon, is an exceptional buffer character who collaborates exceptionally well with Fleuret, similar to Mona. Leon has the ability to boost allies’ Attack and Critical Damage, but also converts their Health Points into a protective shield. This makes him highly effective, particularly when managing his Health effectively.

3 A tier


  • Ryuji Sakamoto
  • Shun Kano
  • Haruna Nishimori

Ryuji Sakamoto, or “Skull,” is an effective single-target assassin, particularly excelling in battles against bosses. To maximize his abilities, it’s beneficial to maintain a relatively low Health (HP) level without dying outright. This can sometimes be challenging, which is why he falls into the mid-tier category of the Phantom X rankings.

As a gamer, I embody Soy, the formidable tank and debuffer, excelling in single-target combat. When pitted against powerful bosses, I truly shine, showcasing god-tier abilities. My unique skillset allows me to diminish an enemy’s defensive strength, making me a force to be reckoned with in boss battles. However, in the story mode, while still effective, my prowess is not as pronounced due to the nature of multi-target encounters.

Haruna Nishimori (Riddle) serves as a tactical expert, enhancing her teammates’ Attack (ATK) and Damage Bonus. However, her abilities tend to be unpredictable. It’s crucial for her to make the initial attack, allowing her allies to follow up afterwards. This sequence maximizes the number of stacks she accumulates.

4 B tier


  • Kotone Montagne
  • Motoha Arai
  • Yukimi Fujikawa
  • Tomoko Noge

Kotone Montagne, often referred to as Mont, is typically a standard Damage Per Second (DPS) character who focuses on one target, but she truly excels when equipped with the right resources. In simpler terms, while she’s an assassin by design, she performs best when given the necessary tools to truly outshine.

In simpler terms, Motoha Arai, also known as Closer, primarily specializes in Area-of-Effect (AoE) damage infliction. However, it’s unfortunate that her damage output isn’t as high as we might hope. Closer possesses the ability to shock enemies, but she relies on a teammate to execute the damage since her own damage potential is rather low.

As a devoted admirer, I’ve found that Tomoko Noge, or “Moko” as she’s fondly known, possesses the unique ability to put enemies to sleep. However, this power truly shines when utilized within a specific team composition. Ideally, this includes Joker, Leon, Moko, and if possible, Okyann.

5 C tier


  • Toshiya Sumi
  • Kiyoshi Kurotani

Currently, these characters in Persona 5: The Phantom X are ranked at the bottom of the tier list. It might be best to skip them as they won’t significantly impact your gameplay. You should have a good number of strong characters from the tutorial and free pulls already, so you may not need to utilize these additional ones.
