I must confess, as a die-hard fan of Peyton List’s enchanting acting prowess, I’ve been captivated by her latest roles in both “School Spirits” and “Girl Haunts Boy.” Though these characters may be spectral entities, they are as different as night and day.
Actress Peyton List has somehow moved into a world beyond the physical, making her character from Disney Channel even more popular with Cobra Kai. However, it’s her role as Maddie Nears (somewhat distant) in the Paramount+ series, School Spirits, that has garnered her the most attention. In this show, she portrays a high school student who resides in the supernatural realm, which she revisits with the recently released film titled Girl Haunts Boy.
In the movie “Girl Haunts Boy“, the character portrayed by Stella Maeve is Bea, a spectral student who perished in the 1920s and has been confined to a single house. However, when Cole (played by Michael Cimino) discovers half of her ring, he gains the ability to converse with her and even take her outdoors. As revealed in an interview with MovieWeb, List explains that although Maddie and Bea might be spectral beings, there isn’t much else that links them. “I believe they couldn’t be more dissimilar,” stated List, chuckling: “They are completely distinct.
The only similarity between them is their invisibility and the amusing game of avoiding each other’s gaze, as everyone in the group is told, ‘Don’t look at Peyton! Avoid eye contact with her!’ Beyond that, they are as dissimilar as can be.
As a cinephile, I’d say Bea in “Girl Haunts Boy” seems significantly more hopeful and vibrant compared to Maddie. In my perspective, Bea’s character exudes an infectious optimism and energy that truly stands out.
Indeed, it’s quite unusual. To be honest, I never planned to portray characters with such a resemblance. Somehow, it just worked out that way. The truth is, I found myself drawn to both scripts at almost the same moment, and I couldn’t resist either of them.
Peyton List on School Spirits Season 2 & New Co-Star Jess Gabor
Following the conclusion of School Spirits‘ first season, viewers are aware that List has taken on a unique ghostly role in Season 2, and she is genuinely thrilled about it. “Indeed, there are two new cast members I’m particularly looking forward to,” said List, “and the actress, Jess Gabor, who I collaborated closely with this season since I’m portraying two characters. She’s incredibly gifted and offers so much.
“Really the second season has multiple genres going on. It really took like a much darker, thriller sort of space, and it was fun to play. And we had really fun directors, and they just brought a whole new energy to it. Craig Johnson, who did Skeleton Twins, he came and everyone’s just so fun to collaborate with. I’m really excited for the season. I think it’s going to be even better.”
