In a fresh development, S-Games has shared an exciting new gameplay trailer for their upcoming title, Phantom Blade Zero – an action RPG. Preliminary glimpses suggest that it takes cues from popular games like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Nioh, while also incorporating elements akin to Black Myth: Wukong.
Yet, unlike other games mimicking Black Myth: Wukong, it doesn’t follow the mechanics typically found in Souls-like games from FromSoftware.
In simpler terms, this implies that once you take a break at the bonfire in Phantom Blade Zero, no monsters will reappear. Moreover, unlike some games with set difficulty levels, it doesn’t have them. Instead, its gameplay is heavily influenced by classic hack-and-slash titles like Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden.
Gameplay that Caters to All Types of Players
As I watched the gameplay trailer for Phantom Blade Zero, it gave me a taste of its combo-focused battles. Reminders of the health bars in the boss fights felt familiar, like something straight out of FromSoftware’s games. However, this title isn’t aiming to mimic their notorious difficulty level. Instead, Phantom Blade Zero is designed to provide a diverse range of challenge levels. It’s got something for everyone, whether you’re after a laid-back gaming experience or are up for a tougher battle with its bosses.
Similar to the Devil May Cry series by CAPCOM, choosing the right weapon significantly impacts gameplay. The teaser showed the main character brandishing various weapons, such as what seems to be a Kris sword and a throwable katana that can sever enemy heads.
While details about Phantom Blade Zero may be scarce, it’s clear that it departs from typical Souls-like mechanics, as we’ve noted earlier. Moreover, this game fully leverages Unreal Engine 5, aiming for a consistent 60 fps on the PlayStation 5, and possibly even better performance on PC systems.
An upcoming multiplayer endgame mode is also planned, though details remain under wraps.
A Statement From the Chinese Video Games Industry
Phantom Blade Zero signifies a daring attempt to make a mark in the Chinese gaming market, aiming for supremacy in the AAA gaming sector. This ambition is clearly seen, given that the game received extra funding after the success of Black Myth: Wukong, as pointed out by industry analyst Daniel Camilo in his latest tweet.
Chinese game developers are capitalizing on the impact of Game Science, leading to an influx of Action Role-Playing Games centered around ancient Chinese legends and folklore.
Despite the fact that Phantom Blade Zero has some distance left to travel, S-Games has officially announced their aim for a release date in the remainder of this year.
