‘Phantom of the Opera’ Plans Return to New York in Immersive Production

The Phantom of the Opera is returning to New York in an immersive production.

Masquerade” is finally ready to unveil itself after weeks of tantalizing previews (even with The Phantom gracing the red carpet at the Tony Awards). Now, it’s official! The production will be steered by Tony Award-winning director Diane Paulus and has revealed its full cast lineup. Notable names include Hugh Panaro, a previous Broadway Phantom, and Kaley Ann Voorhees, who used to play Christine. The show has scheduled a six-week run, which they refer to as their “initial festivities,” beginning July 31 at a commercial property in midtown Manhattan.

I’m immersed in a captivating stage adaptation, spun from the classic musical “The Phantom of the Opera.” This masterpiece boasts melodies crafted by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics penned by Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe, with additional lyrical contributions from Stilgoe. The script itself is a collaborative effort between Stilgoe and Webber. It’s an honor to bring this production to life under the arrangement with Webber’s The Really Useful Group.

Information regarding the specifics of the performance is limited, however, the creators have shared their vision for the event: “Guests will be given an opportunity to immerse themselves in the music of the night like never before, as they journey from the loftiest rooftop to hidden depths beneath the Opera Populaire.

Attendees are also required to wear a mask during the show and wear black, white or silver.

Following its final performance at the Majestic Theatre in April 2023, after a 35-year stint on Broadway, the captivating stage adaptation of “The Phantom of the Opera” will follow. Previously, Lloyd Webber had suggested that “Phantom” might make another appearance in New York City. It’s worth noting that the London production is still ongoing. Additionally, during this theater season, Lloyd Webber was also present on Broadway with the revival of his musical “Sunset Blvd.”, featuring Nicole Scherzinger as a lead.
