Piper Perabo Says There’s Been “Some Discussion” About a ‘Coyote Ugly’ Sequel: “Things Are Moving Around”

Piper Perabo says there has been “some discussion” about a sequel to Coyote Ugly.

The actress paid a visit to the Hollywood Reporter’s room during San Diego Comic-Con to publicize her forthcoming spy-thriller show “Butterfly”. She was accompanied by her fellow actors, including Daniel Dae Kim who plays a significant role in and oversees the production of the Prime Video series.

25 years ago next month, the movie “Coyote Ugly” was released, featuring Eric Dane as a budding songwriter who relocates to New York City in pursuit of her ambitions. Instead, she lands a job at a fashionable bar named Coyote Ugly. Alongside Dane, the film features Adam Garcia, John Goodman, Maria Bello, Izabella Miko, Tyra Banks, Bridget Moynahan and Melanie Lynskey in various roles.

At Comic-Con, THR’s Tiffany Taylor inquired about the status of talks surrounding a potential sequel, having heard discussions about it over the years, and addressed this with Perabo directly.

Kim playfully inserted a title idea into the conversation: “Could it be ‘Coyote Uglier’?” Perabo retorted jokingly: “How about ‘Coyote-er Ugly’?

After giving the matter careful thought, Perabo affirmed that there have been talks about this issue. Various topics are under consideration. To be honest, I can’t disclose much, but those involved in it are discussing certain matters.

Taylor observed, “It seems like our discussions have resumed,” to which Perabo responded, “There are some essential participants now — and even those who weren’t initially deemed necessary were eager to join. Now they’re expressing interest. So, there are many chefs in the kitchen currently, but things appear to be stirring.

As for whether there is a script, Perabo demurred.

She stated that she’s unable to discuss the matter directly, but hinted that those who played crucial roles are currently collaborating on finding a solution for further action.

The film generated a global revenue of approximately $114 million, as per Box Office Mojo (unadjusted for inflation), and garnered a mixture of positive and negative reviews initially. Nevertheless, over time, it has developed a devoted following, earning the title of a cult classic post its release.

It also spawned a LeAnn Rimes hit, the Diane Warren-penned “Can’t Fight the Moonlight.”
