- After two months of nominations and voting the winners have been announced for this year’s Pocket Gamer Awards
- While there were more than a few expected names, there were a couple of unexpected winners who took home the public voted awards
- This has been one of the strongest years for mobile games on record and the public’s votes show exactly that
As someone who has been following the evolution of mobile gaming since its inception, I can confidently say that this year’s Pocket Gamer Awards have been a game-changer. The diversity and quality of games nominated were truly a testament to how far we’ve come from those early days when our phones could barely handle a simple Snake game.
At the conclusion of a nomination phase spanning a month, followed by a 30-day voting period, and culminating in a grand awards ceremony, the victors for the Pocket Gamer Awards 2024 have now been unveiled.
Over these years, it’s been nothing short of amazing to see the progression, and the roster of winners clearly demonstrates how much the sector has advanced since we initiated our awards program in 2010 (with the Reader’s Choice category being only one of the many categories).
It’s been incredibly fortunate to witness the development of this project since we initiated Nominations in early October, and it has proven to be an extraordinary success. However, the triumph isn’t merely about garnering numerous votes (which we did), but rather, it signifies a significant achievement because I believe that for the first time, mobile gamers can confidently assert that they’ve compiled a list of winners reflective of the broader gaming industry as a whole.
This variety encompasses a wide spectrum, from global giants such as NetEase (with Sony’s Destiny IP) and Tencent-backed SuperCell, to established game publishers like Konami and Bandai Namco, along with indie favorites Rusty Lake and Emoak. Moreover, this year has been exceptional for games moving between platforms. Just as mobile games often find their way onto PCs, we’ve witnessed numerous top-tier experiences transition in the opposite direction, a trend that is reflected in the three outstanding port releases that have earned awards.
Anyway, enough preamble. You can find all of the winners below:
Congratulations to all of the winners, and thank you for reading and voting. It’s been an amazing awards period this year, and I can’t wait to see what we’ll be celebrating next year.
