‘Poohniverse’ Director Teases Which Movie Will “Destroy” Our Childhoods

As a movie reviewer looking back on my childhood, if you found the Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey films disturbing, just wait until you lay your eyes on what director Scott Chambers promises will be even more shocking. In 2023, the sequel, Blood and Honey, reimagined cherished characters like Pooh and Piglet as ruthless slasher villains terrorizing the Hundred Acre Wood. The violence escalated in Blood and Honey 2 with the addition of Tigger and Owl to the mayhem, creating a bloodbath in Ashdown that will leave you speechless.

Discussing with MovieWeb for the promotion of the upcoming third installment in the series titled “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare“, director Scott Chambers shared an intriguing detail: The most chilling twists are yet to be unveiled, aiming to further tarnish childhood memories. When asked about which film would make viewers think twice, he was quick to respond.

It’s quite straightforward. In our opinion, ‘Pinocchio: Unstrung’ could be our finest production yet. The title character plays a crucial role in the story, a point that was significant to me and Rhys [Frake-Waterfield]. We ensured he would be the lead character. Unlike some films, there’s no CGI involved here; instead, we utilized animatronics and other practical effects. To clarify, this isn’t like the Annabelle doll just sitting there, it’s a puppet that moves, talks, runs, kills, and even wears human skin to feel more like a boy. This film is expected to leave a lasting impact on childhood memories.

Chambers’ remarks align with those made by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, creator of the “Twisted Childhood Universe,” who cautioned viewers last year about “Pinocchio: Unstrung.” According to him, this version will be an exceptionally distinct and R-rated adaptation of Pinocchio. It will have a substantial body count, twist the original tale, and include plenty of grisly practical effects. In essence, he plans to give Pinocchio a grand entrance into the “Poohniverse” with a lot of impact.

‘Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare’ Is a “Serious” Entry in the ‘Poohniverse’

Before diving into Pinocchio: Unstrung later this year, the upcoming movie is Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, which one might expect to be a fantastical and gruesome portrayal of The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up. However, in contrast to the two Winnie-the-Pooh films, this new entry in the Poohniverse is rooted in reality to offer a more down-to-earth movie experience. Initially, this realistic approach wasn’t planned; it was a response to circumstances, as explained by Chambers, who notes that the script underwent significant changes with co-writer Matt Leslie.

The storyline was far more extraordinary, entirely taking place in Neverland. It serves as an excellent sequel, yet I hesitated to proceed with it due to a lingering sense that following our work on Winnie-the-Pooh 2, we may have reached too great a height.

I must admit, the scene depicting the tragic rave incident was incredibly intense, causing Rhys to vomit on set. Consequently, I had doubts about my ability to deliver the production justice, leading me to reconsider my decision… It’s actually much more somber in nature.

As a devoted fan, let me tell you that I’ve been blown away by the incredible results of “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare.” This latest installment in the franchise stands out as an unparalleled masterpiece. It skillfully veers from expectations to offer a chilling exploration of complex topics such as drug addiction, abandonment, and gender identity. With its thought-provoking themes and graphic violence, it’s a must-watch for fans of the Poohniverse. Catch it on the big screen exclusively at Jagged Edge Productions and Iconic Events from Jan 13th, distributed by ITN Studios. Don’t miss out! Find showtimes and book your tickets here.
