POP MART is Bringing Print Back with the Launch of New Magazine, play/GROUND

POP MART is recognized for its trendy collectibles and mystery boxes – think the popular Labubu Monsters and Skullpandas. However, this global pop culture titan is now stepping into the publishing industry with the debut of its fresh print magazine, called play/GROUND.

As a fan of the past, I’ve noticed a refreshing comeback of print media these days, particularly as Gen Z pays homage to the ’90s and early 2000s aesthetically by embracing nostalgia-core. Now, POP MART is jumping on board with their initial step into tangible media, delving into contemporary youth culture and tackling themes that resonate deeply within our generation in a captivating and immersive way.

The debut edition of play/GROUND magazine, printed on larger-than-usual paper, explores a wide range of “Social” topics, from the internet and social clubs to finding genuine human interaction in today’s digital world. To heighten anticipation, the first cover feature is Chinese singer-songwriter and versatile producer Leah Dou. Renowned for her enigmatic personality, she is also celebrated for her unique, genre-blending music style.

More recently, in 2024, she published an album called “In the Air (Airborne Spirit)” and has also showcased her acting talents in projects like “Existence,” “The Eleventh Chapter,” and others, demonstrating a versatile and creative spirit. Her creative energy aligns with the strong desire for self-expression and authenticity that characterizes her generation, making her an ideal fit to feature on the inaugural edition.
