‘Poppa’s House,’ ‘NCIS: Origins’ Score Full-Season Pickups at CBS

As a seasoned gamer of television shows, I must say that CBS is really stepping up their game with these new additions to their Monday night lineup! The prospect of delving into the origin story of my all-time favorite NCIS character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, in NCIS: Origins, is nothing short of exhilarating. And let’s not forget about Poppa’s House, a comedy that promises to bring the dynamic father/son chemistry between Damon Sr. and Jr. to life.

CBS is shoring up its Monday night lineup.

The primary-year comedy “Poppa’s House,” featuring stars Damon Wayans Sr. and Jr., along with the prequel drama “NCIS: Origins” have been chosen for complete seasons consisting of 18 episodes each by the broadcast network. Both shows, produced by CBS Studios, fit seamlessly into the Monday schedule on CBS alongside established series like “The Neighborhood” and “NCIS.

Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, praised the fresh perspective brought by “NCIS: Origins” to the NCIS franchise, as it delves into the backstory of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, offering a 90’s-style cinematic experience complete with unique characters, plotlines, and crime-solving. On the other hand, “Poppa’s House” shines with the compelling father-son relationship between Damon and Damon Jr., along with heartwarming family tales that make this comedy a must-watch. These shows harmoniously complement our Monday night schedule, striking a chord with both CBS and Paramount+ viewers.

Two shows, including “Young Sheldon” spinoff titled “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage,” and CBS’ updated version of “Matlock,” have secured a full-season commitment from the network. Notably, “Matlock” has already been renewed for the 2025-26 season.

The initial broadcast of “NCIS: Origins” on October 14th has attracted approximately 9 million viewers up to now, according to linear data from VideoAmp and internal streaming statistics from CBS. Since the network is currently in a contract disagreement with Nielsen, they’re not using Nielsen’s ratings for the time being. “Poppa’s House,” which premiered a week later, has amassed 6.41 million viewers across multiple platforms during its debut.

The television series Poppa’s House features Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson, in addition to its main cast. Dean Lorey serves as an executive producer for the show, alongside Wayans Sr. and Wayans Jr.

In the series “NCIS: Origins“, Austin Stowell portrays a younger version of the character Gibbs, who was originally played by Mark Harmon. The ensemble cast also features Kyle Schmid, Mariel Molino, Tyla Abercrumbie, Diany Rodriguez, and Caleb Foote. David J. North and Gina Lucita Monreal serve as executive producers alongside franchise veterans Mark Harmon and Sean Harmon.
