The highly successful streaming series “Poker Face,” co-created by Natasha Lyonne and Rian Johnson, is coming back this year. To put it mildly, the roster of celebrities they’ve lined up for Season 2 is nothing short of astonishing. If I were in charge of casting, and managed to assemble such a stellar group, I’d be shouting it from every corner, because this lineup features the cream of the crop – the funniest, most gifted individuals working in Hollywood today.
It appears that Lyonne and Johnson acknowledge this, as they included a message with the press release hinting at the upcoming episodes of the series. Although we don’t have an exact premiere date yet – all we know is “Spring 2025” – what we do know is that there will be 12, one-hour-long episodes filled with numerous exceptionally talented actors in each one. Take a look at the new images (below!) if you don’t trust us; you’ll undoubtedly be amazed, alright?
The New Season Of ‘Poker Face’ Already Looks So Good I Can’t Stand It!
Accompanying those pictures were remarks by Johnson and Lyonne regarding where Charlie Cale’s journey will lead us during this season. You can find the complete text of their note below for your reading pleasure.
In Season 2, we’ve escalated Charlie Cale’s escapades as she continues to evade capture. Her odyssey takes her through a series of murder mysteries, each one leading her from the realm of minor league baseball to big box retail, funeral homes, alligator farms, and even a grade school talent show. With her trademark dry humor, compassion for humanity, and exceptional knack for detecting lies, Charlie navigates this existential road-trip of crime-solving.
In crafting Season 2, I drew visual influences from the vibrant American ’70s cinema scene, cherishing filmmakers like Robert Altman, Bob Rafelson, and Peter Bogdanovich. However, the heart of this series lies in television – the kind we grew up with, those captivating weekly mysteries such as Columbo, The Rockford Files, and Quantum Leap. Each episode is a self-contained story, immersed in its own distinctive atmosphere and populated by an array of eccentric characters brought to life by an extraordinary roster of guest stars. I still can’t help but marvel at the opportunity to collaborate with luminaries such as Cynthia Erivo, Katie Holmes, John Mulaney, Awkwafina (and so many more, the list is almost overwhelming), who all embraced the project with enthusiasm and delivered memorable performances.
Twelve killer new episodes are coming your way. Buckle up and see you on the road!
And seriously — the guest star list is truly unhinged (and we mean that in the best way possible):
- Alia Shawkat (Blink Twice, Search Party)
- Awkwafina (The Farewell, Crazy Rich Asians)
- Ben Marshall (Saturday Night Live, Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain)
- B.J. Novak (The Office, Vengeance)
- Carol Kane (Between the Temples, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt)
- Cliff “Method Man” Smith (Power Book II: Ghost, The Deuce)
- Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton, The Piano Lesson)
- Cynthia Erivo (Wicked, Harriet)
- David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer, Numb3rs)
- Davionte “GaTa” Ganter (Dave, Anyone But You, Rick and Morty)
- Ego Nwodim (Mr. Throwback, Saturday Night Live)
- Gaby Hoffmann (Transparent, Eric)
- Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul, Parish)
- Haley Joel Osment (Blink Twice, Wednesday)
- Jason Ritter (Matlock)
- John Cho (Searching, Star Trek)
- John Mulaney (John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA)
- Justin Theroux (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, White House Plumbers)
- Kathrine Narducci (Euphoria, Alto Knights)
- Katie Holmes (Our Town, Ray Donovan, Rare Objects)
- Kevin Corrigan (Narcos: Mexico, Godfather of Harlem)
- Kumail Nanjiani (Welcome to Chippendales, Only Murders in the Building)
- Margo Martindale (The Americans, The Sticky)
- Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets, Togetherness)
- Patti Harrison (I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, Together Together)
- Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso, Veep)
- Sherry Cola (Nobody Wants This, Joy Ride)
- Simon Rex (Red Rocket, Blink Twice)
It seems there are actually more famous guests planned for the show than what’s been announced so far! Incredibly, it feels like this series might just be too good to be true. Of course, we can hardly wait until this drama-filled crime procedural graces our television screens once again.
