Lovers of the show “On Call” on Amazon Prime Video have received disappointing updates. It turns out that the program won’t be airing fresh episodes on this streaming platform. However, there’s still a glimmer of optimism for supporters of the series as things stand.

It appears that On Call will not be proceeding with a second season on Amazon Prime Video. This news might take fans by surprise since the show garnered high viewership, even topping Prime Video’s streaming chart in the U.S. following the release of all eight episodes in January. The series also received positive feedback from viewers, securing a 92% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, although it had a more modest critics’ score of 53%.

There’s still a possibility that the series “On Call” might find a new home soon. Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television are said to be negotiating with other networks, considering its popularity. A potential suitor is NBCUniversal’s Peacock, known for hosting Dick Wolf’s “One Chicago” and “Law & Order” series. Since there’s a chance that “On Call” could become part of the franchise, optimism is running high, but whether it will actually be picked up is about 50-50.

It seems discussions about renewing “On Call” for a second season on Prime Video didn’t go as planned due to financial disagreements. The streamer reportedly felt that the show was losing them money, which led to the breakdown in talks. Despite this split, sources claim that Amazon allowed the producers to reclaim the rights to the existing season if they can find another platform for “On Call”.

In this production, Dick Wolf worked together with his son Elliot Wolf and Tim Walsh to create the series. Alongside them, Walsh, Eriq La Salle, Peter Jankowski, and the series’ main star also contribute as producers. Actors like Troian Bellisario, Brandon Larracuente, Lori Loughlin, and Rich Ting are also part of this stellar cast.

In this television series, Bellisario and Larracuente take on roles as an experienced police officer and a fresh recruit, respectively, cruising the streets of Long Beach, California. They handle emergency situations while simultaneously helping investigate the murder of a fellow officer. There have been discussions about potential plotlines for a second season if the show is renewed.

Previously, Walsh mentioned, “We’ve left some topics unfinished.” Regarding Smokey’s fentanyl trade, it remains active and presents opportunities for us to delve deeper into it in Season 2. Primarily, the main focus is on further developing the two leading characters, which is the key point of interest for the upcoming season.
