Prime Video Orders ‘Barbershop’ Series Starring Jermaine Fowler

Amazon Prime Video has ordered Barbershop, starring Jermaine Fowler (Ricky Stanicky), to series.

Marshall Todd, the creator of the original “Barbershop” movie script with a modern perspective, is penning and overseeing the television series; Max Searle, known for his work on “Dave”, has been announced as co-showrunner and executive producer. The upcoming “Barbershop” series will be produced by Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat Productions (he’s one of the executive producers), Prominent Productions, State Street Pictures, and Amazon MGM Studios.

In the TV series based on the Barbershop film series, I find myself immersed in the world of Travis “Trav” Porter (Fowler), who’s stepping into the shoes of his legendary barber grandfather at the iconic “Calvin’s” barbershop in Chicago. Despite the fresh faces behind the chairs, the shop remains as bustling as ever, the patrons still ready to debate and the haircuts just as cool as they were back then – because at Calvin’s, it’s not just about getting a trim; it’s about the community gathering for much more than that.

Alongside Bryan Smiley, Mike Stein, Bradley Gardner, Cameron Burnett, and Autumn Bailey-Ford, the show is overseen by a group of executive producers. Meanwhile, Tiffany Brown plays a key role in this production as she shares the responsibilities of co-executive producing.

Three Barbershop movies have been released: the original one in 2002 titled simply “Barbershop”, followed by “Barbershop 2: Back in Business” in 2004 and “Barbershop: The Next Cut” in 2016. These films featured Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, Anthony Anderson, and Eve, along with other actors.

Amazon Prime Video held its presentation event on Monday evening, wrapping up a full day of advertising activities that kicked off at 10:30 a.m. Eastern Time with NBCUniversal and moved to Fox at 4 p.m.
